making my own big brake upgrade
ive been looking for 90 to 91 civic ex spindles but ive had a hard time locating some, so i was wondering if i could piece together my own brake kit. what all would i have to get to do something like this. could i get the calipers at an autozone or do you have to get those at a more "professional" place. i wanted to get some brembo blanks, and maybe by doing this i could save some money in the long run by just piecing the whole kit together instead of buying the spindles then adding each piece as i went. what else would i have to get to get them to bolt up correctly to my 88 crx hf? thanks.
I'm not sure if this is correct, but something to look into. I've heard the 92-95 Civic / 94+ Integra front suspension/knuckle bolts up to the EF chassis. If that's true, you could get an entire used assembly with 10.3" brakes for not much as your "big brake upgrade"
You can swap a full disk brake setup out of a 90-93 integra into an EF. I know the rear you have to have the E-brake cable from the integra to make it work. Search, I know it's on here somewhere.
wilwood actually makes a front kit for the ef. it's reasonably priced and it works badass. i got mine for around $750. 12.5in. rotors 4 piston calipers. comes with pads and lines as well. you cant go wrong.
well for the eg brake stuff, i have never heard anything about it bolting straight up, i guess it is possible, but does anyone know for sure as far as camber, etc.. being correct?
as for the integra stuff, ive heard its just a headache trying to get everything straight and adjusted properly so i dunno about that
and as far as going with willwood i like the idea but i don't know if i want to just throw out 750 for them.
what i was wondering is that i heard that the civic ex's brakes were partly from the crx, and the rotors and caliper were from the integra. could i just get all the necessary parts from the two cars and put them together? thanks for any help.
also can anyone give me a diagram of the whole brake setup with labels so i know exactly what all im looking at? thanks again

with Teg stuff your camber and toe will be way off, some alignment shops wont even fix it because it's so bad, as for EG knuckles i'm not sure
if you wanna stop $750 will make it happen. not to mention, they look sweet. if you make your own, i hear it will be a hassle, as far as proper alignment goes.

do a search there was a big thread on doing factory big brake kits with civic sedan rotors and prelude VTEC rotors(you would have to have them re drilled to fit the civic bolt pattern)

That might be nice, but you have to go to bigger wheels to fit those rotors.
Besides, a properly functioning stock brake system will do just fine. I know a few CRX owners that race their car in SCCA and they all use the stock brake system.
I bet you get a lot of bling bling with the 4 piston calipers, but that is overkill on a 2K pound car that is not professionally raced on a frequent basis.

yeah, this car is a weekend car just to go to the drag strip. i just need enough to stop without any hesitation. and another reason i don't want wilwood is because i don't need to bring any more attention then what i might get already. i just don't want it to get it stolen, so if i can make it look as stock as possible that would be good.
also, i know that the integra stuff will give me alignment issues but if i used it in conjuction with some of the si parts could it be done? thanks for all the replies.

"Hesitation?"
Brakes do not stop your car. Tires stop your car. Your car's braking system is only as good as the tires you're running.
If you want to lower braking distances and avoid fade problems, start with tires, pads, and fluid. If you're still having fade problems after the pads and fluid, only then should you look at bigger rotors as an option.
For a CRX, then the 4-wheel discs from an Si with good tires, pads, and fluid are pretty much all you'll ever need if you don't do any sort of closed-circuit high-performance driving.

well since the car was an hf people have said just to do the crx si swap so that the b-series axles will fit, and then the search grew with people saying that it would just be more efficient if i went with the civic ex brakes and yada yada yade, but i know what you are saying is true, but i was wondering if by doing this would save me some money in the long run. thanks for the replies, any comments welcome.

Do you have pictures of this setup i would love to see this?
can you run 16in wheels with this setup?
and does this kit include front and rear rotors, calipers, pads, and stainless steel lines if so were could i find it? (sorry dumb *** me didn't read the last sentence)
oh yea sorry for jacking the thread

yea i have pics, but i think (we-todd) is down again. none of my pics are showing up on this site, and i can't open my account.
i'm not sure about 16's but i know 17's fit with the rite offset.
and to: (the new spaceballs) that SCCA thing with the stock brakes is to keep you in a certian class. your buddy probably runs F prod or ITE, correct?

ok, we see a body kit crx with 5 lug conversion (pointless).
so you got ITR brakes that you'll never use to their fullest (or you would have stuck with the 9.5" brakes, as they work fine)
