I have a B16A motor and trans in my 90 crx si. I want to know what will my max speed be with this motor and trans?? And what is the redline for this motor?? I am using a Pr 3 ecu but i am planning on using the Zdyne 1 wire ecu..Is this a good ecu to use?? Thanks

 

ecu should be around 8200 or so, that can be modded though, top speed should be under 145.

 

but the top speed also varies with what b16 tranny you have.

 

if you are using a PR3 ecu, you can go up to 112MPH...

Yup, but most of our speedos are so off that I'm sure you'll hit like "125" before the limiter cuts in. Brag about this when you do.

i've had the needle past 120 plenty of times on my SOHC ZC, keeping my ground right behind my friend in his gsr pushing 130ish

Don't chime in if you don't know what you are talking about. I take my car to the redline quite often, which is 8200.

My cars top speed would be about 135 - 140 MPH with the J1 tranny. At 70 MPH in fifth, the RPM is at 4200. So at about 135 MPH my needle would be bouncing off the rev limiter.


But going that fast on the street is retarded and not worth it.

it all depends if your ecu is chipped or not, what tranny you are running and if you have a long enough stretch to hit these speeds in a stock b16 crx. i wouldnt worry to much about top end anyway, this is a honda not a s4 or m3.

 

if u have a PR3 or PWO u wont pass 112mph
u need to chip it or a Fields SFC VTEC in order to get rid of that
but mechanically wise u can do around 135 ish

 

and isn't the redline like 7ish if you dont get your ecu chipped or anything?? i know mechanically you can go up to 8200...but on the pr3 and pwo is 8200 stock?

You can have 2 limiting factors, either you run out of gear, or you run out of HP to push it any faster.

I'll spare your the details of the calculation, but the speed of a car will increas by a factor proportional to the cube root of the horspower increase factor.

So say your top speed is 100 mph, double your HP and you could theoretically hit 100 x (2)^1/3 = 126 mph

Now you have an 89 si, stock it has a topspeed of around 196 kph (or thats what my crx would do) for 106 hp

You have a b16 which is 160 hp if I'm not mistaken

your hp increase is therefore 160/106=1.509

So your top speed should be 196 * (1.509)^1/3 = 225 kph
or 141 mph

This is therotical and assumes the car is outputting 160 HP at top speed (which isnt completely right since the HP increases with rpm and speed)

So you'll be power limited at about 141 mph....no clue what the gears will limit you too

yea my limiter showed around 112mph on my cluster but was around 120mph from another car beside me

I got a german EF8 (b16a1) with mohr exhaust and k&n inlay installed.
On a flat road I can hit 245km/h.....In my papers is written 222km/h.
