Another Icebox Question
I got my Icebox for christmas and I'm not too happy w/ the construction. The top of the box doesn't seal up 100% (it's slightly jiggly) and the air horn doesn't create a 100% seal w/ the tube it connects to. My question is, is this normal for an Icebox or did I get a defect? Pretty pissed so any input is appreciated.
i have the same problem
was thinking if it wasnt 100% seal which means it will lose some air too is it ? so are we getting max performance out of it ?

Which part of the seal are you guys dissatisfied with? I think I 'm more concerned w/ the horn not fitting right. It's pretty shitty that you pay $170 for a piece of plastic that doesn't even piece together correctly!

If you think $170 is bad, the Ice Box i have for my RSX cost just about $300 and it has the same problem as the one you are describing. The cover is a PITA to put on and it doesn't seal up properly, but Comptech designed it like that as to minimize the chances of hydro-lock. At least it works.

Gotta agree, Although it wasn't the same quality that I was expecting as compared to OEM fit and finish wise, Mine is pretty decent. Mine also was one of the first one's though and I haven't looked at the newer ones lately.

I don't know about the ones for the DC2, but the ones for the RSX all, and i do mean ALL, have the cover/lid problem.

I don't think anyone has ever described in detail the right way to put that cover on and off. It will seal properly, but it takes some practice and I think that most of us drive around w/out it properly sealed for a while before we have that "Oh!" moment and realise how it's supposed to work.

I've had mine for quite some time, and don't have any plans to change it. It dynos well, and looks stockish so it doesn't attract attention when the hood's up.

George Knighton: I'm assuming you have an Ice Box on your EP3, is that true? A couple of us over at clubrsx are having a problem with our Ice Box on our Type S. The hydraulic line that goes into the clutch slave cylinder is rubbing up against the right side (passenger side) of the snokle, which has caused the hydraulic line to cause an indentation (almost eating away) into the snorkle. Also when the clutch is fully pressed in to the floor, the clutch lever will nudge the snorkle to the left roughly 1/8". Are you having any of these problems on your EP3? Comptech has been notified about these problems from us, and one of our members should be going down to Comptech real soon to show them the problem. They say they haven't been able to produce these problems on their in house Type S, yet quite a few members on clubrsx have the same problem.
As far as the lid goes, it doesn't bother me that much. I guess they designed it to fit that way. The plastic they used for the box is real flexible, so as long as i can get the lid over the box, then i'm not worried. A member mentioned that because the box is so flexible, that might be one of the problems that caused the hydraulic line rub in the first place. He stated that before you place the lid on top of the box, there's clearance between the two. Once you place the lid on top, because the box deforms so much, it causes the snorkle to rub against the hydraulic line. Well at least that's one of our theories.

My icebox fits just fine, I did have a few issues with the stock intake arm though. I just bought the intake kit and solved my own problem.
The box was sort of awkward to take on and off, until I realized how it all went together though.

George, when you say "most don't know how to take the cover on and off", what's the big secret? I don't understand how there can be a right or wrong method, it just snaps on and off.

When I had a Icebox on my ITR I drilled 4 holes, 2 on the front and 2 on the back of the box, through the cover into the box. I then used 4 push/screw??? things from the rear trunk area that normaly holds the rear trunk plastic in place to secure the cover.

I must be a bigger idiot than I thought, then.
It took the bunch of us about three months before the lightbulb went off.

LMAO, I bought Matts Icebox from him, and I lost one of the screw thingies, so I emailed Comptech asking if I could get some more. They were like WTF (this was the only Icebox I had ever really seen up close). I even went so far to taking pics and sending sent to them, I thought they were idiots b/c they couldnt figure out what I was talking about! They were like, it just snaps on. LOL. So I figured he must have drilled it. I like your solution better Matt.
To summarize, Basically the snap on cover fits poorly on mine too.
