Default Cable trans, Hydro trans tech question...

If I have a set of gears that were made for a cable trans, am I able to put them in a Hydro trans without any modification? Thanks for any help you can offer...

The 90-91 cable trans has different gears, but the 92-93 cable stuff is interchangable with the hydro stuff.

does the input shaft have the big splines or small splines for the clutch?

i got a question on this subject as well....

last night... i swap'd a hydrolic gsr gearset and differential into a cable trans housing...... something is wrong with it...

the input shaft will spin when not "in gear" but when its put into gear, the input shaft will not spin... do i need to use the cable trans shift forks in order for this to work properly ??

the gsr differential is bigger then the ys1 differential. you will need to grind where it hits. ive done it. did you use the stock tapered bearings the gsr has or did u put the sealed style bearings on.because u might have to reshim it for the tapered bearings.

it didnt look like the diff was hitting anything when i put it in the case, i will check that out when i pull the case apart tommorow.. i used the gsr style roller bearings. i put the sleeves(that the diff bearings ride on) from the gsr hydro case into the ys1, and used the shims that were in there..

i can get the input shaft to move when the trans is not in gear. but when i put it into gear. the input shaft, wont move.

do you know if there is a differance in shift forks from a hydro trans to a cable trans?

also, could i use the hydrolic trans shift forks, if i were to use a hydrolic "outer" case, with the cable ys1 "inner case" ??

thanks for the help

that happened to me once. when you switch out gears.. the cases are not all machined exactly the same.. it might be kinda tite at first. put a clutch disk on the input shaft and see if it spins in gear. if its hard to turn but still does.. it will loosen up once you drive it. if it wont move at all you got some problems.

Or sometimes that black washer thing on top of the shaft that that has a little tang, that doesnt get into the groove right it makes the gears wear funny.

This is what I was told ----

Y1 - S1 - J1 are the same size case ( wide from end to where it bolts to block ) I think 21 spline

YS1 is longer ( "wide" ) and that makes the parts interchange into Hydro cases ????? I think 22 spline

JOHN - If you are talking about the trans I think you are it was made out of Y1 case
