A really good friend of mine just got his car back this week, it was stolen recently and the B16 he was running was taken along with a few other goodies.

With the money the insurance company is giving him he wants to build something a little quicker than a B16 but not as pricey as a B18C. He asked me about LS/VTEC motors but I thought it would be best to hear from all of you guys out there so he can get more than just my opinion. His main concern is reliability followed by a want to go fast all capped off with a budget he has to stay within for his build up. So if everyone could list their LS/VTEC set ups, how long youve had them, the type of driving you do and all the other details that would be greatly apreciated.

hey man, i wouldnt hold your breath as a LS/VTEC might overpass the cost of a B18C1/5 swap

could be equivalent to what C5 swap!

2 years and 35,000 miles since built with new bearings, pistons, rod bolts, and head bolts. Still running strong.

 

Friends car both of us built it, 6 -8 months approx. 8000 approx. miles, hard driving 9,500 revs quite often, 2 track events, 2 drag strip nights approx 30-40 passes. Still runs strong, keeping tabs on valvetrain often.
