clutch problems!!! please help
this morning, starting my car, it was fine. good 70 miles of driving and it was fine. took my girl home tonight and i was heading home. everythign was fine. i am in 4th, downshifted into third and i headed up my hill to go home at about 40mph 3rd gear. as soon as i reach the top to down shift to second i dont feel pressure. there is very little pressure. but i managed to get it into second with force. then i started to think **** has just hit the fan with my clutch. so i drive down a sidestreet and i stop at a stop sign. try to put it in first having the clutch to the floor basicly. and i had to force it into gear once more. So i decided to keep it in second and drive it home without stopping at 1am on x-mas night
this is just what i asked for from santa. anything you guys can think of or anything i can inspect at 1am (not very knolegable with clutches at all)
oh and also. when the car is off, there is plenty of pressure. , as soon as i turn the friggin thing on, i get jus about no pressure at all.
also this clutch has only 15k on it, i had a new clutch kit put in when i had a swap done.

If this is a cable system and if it only happens when the car is on then something came apart inside. Most likely it was the disc losing the linings and the lining material gets caught in the pressure plate. It could also be the springs popped out but generally the symptoms are a little different.
If this is a hydraulic system, air in the lines will do the same thing and when the car sits for a few minutes, it changes. Generally it doesn't fail all at once though.
I hope you had a merry Christmas in spite of the trouble.

What do you mean by pressure???
The fact that you have to force the thing in gear means the clutch is still engaged...something is fux0red in the clutch itself....it _could_ be the cable that isnt attached properly, start by checking a shop manual.
tech.hybridgarage.com 's tech section should get you in the right direction

i mean no pressure in the clutch pedal when the car is running. . well it has a little bit, but it goes to the flor prettyt easlely. But it works fine when the car isnt runnig. the cable has about 200+k on it, and the clutch itself has about 10-20k. ive been having kinda a hard tim every once in a while gettign it into reverse and first. not too often though. i heard it might be the cable adjuster thing breaking off and it has no feedback when its broken.
well... one day i was driving and i went to shift and my pedal fell to the floor i had no idea.. so i checked the clutch cable and it was loose *** hell... so i just adjsuted it and it worked great after that. check the clutch cable.. the clutch cable goes from the drivers side of the cars firewall down near your injectors/fuel reail and near your distributor and down to your tranny.. it should have a lil turn thing u use to adjust it right next to the battery..
good luck

ok this is the same problem im having and is sounds the same. I have a squeek in my pedal too i think its the cable getting stretched becasue i have alot of presure on my clutch cable. Also if u have had that cable in there for 200K+ miles its time to get that thing replaced. Just remeber that his cable has a long reach to get to that tranny because when they built these cars they didnt want to have to reverse the whole engine to get left hand driving. So i say replace the cable and go from there. I did that and its runs better but i think i have greater problems with my tranny that u may or may not have. Hope this helps

well its sunday night and ghettocrxsi and i pulled apart my tranny come to find out that it was a broken spring in the clutch, went to 24hr parts store and paid 108 for parts. going to put that ish together tonight and will post pics and whatnot later tonight or in the morn.
well after a hard night of goign to the auto parts store to pick up a clutch kit, goign back becasue they gave us the wrong kit, coming back and installing the kit in the snow under a carport. we started to bolt up the tranny. it didnt seem to wanna bolt up correctly. as-in we used a hydro jack to lift it up into place, and then put one bolt on the top right corner of the tranny, then one on the left side. and so on. once we got all bolts on. we started to tighten and ish. for a few (3) hours we tryed everything from unbolting the god damn tranny so there were only a few threds in each hole so we could remount it right. my friend did most of the work. and he has taken and put together d series and b series trannys quite a few times, and this is the only case where it isnt wanting to go in. any suggestions. anyone else have this problem?
i am pretty sure it was aligned before we put the tranny back on. if it isnt would that cause the tranny not to be bolted on all the way, it seems there is about 1/4 of an inch all the way around that it wont go on to the engine.
yeah that could be a reason .. are the little metal rings in the tranny matching up with empty slots on the motor side? did you align it by eye or with a tool?if its a gap ALL the way around i would think that its either the clutch not being aligend or the shaft isnt sliding in to the the splines on the clutch correctly (which i have done and ended up ruining a brand new clutch) what kind of clutch is it? what tranny is it?
