help with the 2 o2 sensors
Hey guys, justs needed some help with the 2 o2 sensors. Well, I completely forgot that the PR3 asks for 2 sensors, so I went ahead and got a 90 teg exhaust manifold so it would bolt up to my downpipe without any mods. Well, it only has one o2 sensor bung. I want my motor to run good (b16 by the way) so I don't want to just run one sensor and tricking the ecu. So my question is: can I just weld the 2 sensors onto this manifold or should I go and look for a stock b16 one. I'm not sure if the manifold has cylinder 1&4 together and 2&3 together, thats why i need help. Thanks, hope I made sense and let me know.
Yes you can weld in a couple of bungs in the right place, try to make sure they are in the same place as stock. It may be easier to just buy the right manifold
Heres a pic of the stock manifold

if you search it you will find. I'll just tell you that I went trough a lot of BS before I established that:
If you stand in front of your motor, the exhaust pipe on your left is connected to the o2 sensor already located in the 91 Si. The extra one is located to the one on the right. You need to add that pin into the ECU. I'm assuming that this is for 1G B16 ECU....

yeah, first gen b16. Let me get this straight. So one of the o2 sensors on the stock b16 manifold is located where the SI o2 sensor is located? So i would just have to add the other one on the opposite side?

yes.. research on HT is a must... EVERYTHING has been brought up once or twice.. just look around.
but im gunna throw you a bone here..
Ive been Hybrid since my last year a high school, and in my years of blowing up engines and fine tunning, Oxgyen Sensors are a must!
The PR3, and PWO require 2 O2's, monitoring i belive banks, 1 and 4, and the secondary O2 reading banks 2 and 3. Why they're not right next to eachother, i dont' know.
So.. anoyone that knows B16's, and run a pre OBD ECU... OBD0, know that america never had a B series head, that needed OBD0 emissions.. thus for.. no headers made for that application.
so this is the deal.. i wanted 4-1 headers.. but like i just said, no applications... so i started off with the 99 Si header, and added my O2's. but.. i didn't want them to be visable. i instead mounted my "bungs" near the collector pipe.
now.. it being 4-1, you really can't meausre banks 1 and 4, and 2 and 3, as i stated at the top.. so whats the next best thing? half of it. bank 1, and bank 2. you'll see in the pics.
all in all, it worked great.. alot better than bogging around town, and throwing codes left and right..
but.. being in the vulnerable posstion, i ended up scraping one, and it broke off.. i ended up filling those holes, and re-mounted them in OE possitons, just infront of the oil dip stick. also, they warmed up alot faster, and that was the only noticable value.
ok.. so you want to make your own O2 bungs. research... you can go to a muffler shop.. they'll weld you a few on if you can't weld. but what i did.. i got a spark plug non-fouler... basicly, on 18MM spark plugs.. it holds the spark plug further away from the head.. so leaking valve stems don't foul them out. its sorta like a spacer. well, you cut it in half, and you really got a washer, thats threaded to 18MM.. just perfect for O2's. they're like 3 bucks for 2.
then.. on the 99Si, the OBD1/2, O2 can be pluged either with a 18MM bolt, or even an old spark plug.. no biggie.
so hears the pics, and hope i was helpful.

Reply to this because this is exactly what I needed to see, someone else did it and it worked, just so others will see this post too. Because its highly relavent. Looked for this before and never found it in search but stumbled upon it today. Nobody seemed to be able to answer the precise question I was asking and this was the exact answer to the exact question I asked. So fir the search engine the quote JDM 4-1 header on B16A1 engine with PR3 or PW0 ECU.
