Default im dumb, work with me here. RPM sensor?

is there an rpm sensor somewhere? i might be dumb, but im not sure, my vafc all the sudden reads at 0 rpm, my tach that i just took out, (5' monster was just to big) was jumping around all over the place. i know the wiring to the vafc is right... it worked but it just stopped all the sudden.

so my question is why is the vafc not reading any rpm's? would it have something to do with the distributor? and if so what part? i just replace the ignitor, rotor, and cap. so if there is a rpm sensor that could have gone bad let me know.

thanks for your help.

Sounds like the ignitor.

Open your dizzy and check to see if the wires going to it are loose.

check your grounds, and check the alternator to make sure all plugged in and making power.
