Need Engine rebuild information
Hey Guys, I think I'm gonna need to rebuild the might D.
Does anyone know of a How-To or something about the rebuild?
The enging burns oil.
I'd like to do something complete....dont mind spending 500$ to get a "new" engine

A helms will go over everthing for a rebuild..
I bought my single cam ZC rebuilt for 275...so why rebuild a motor yourself when you can buy a rebuilt for the same money...
unless your going to add goodies to the rebuild

You don't need air tools. I did a full rebuild and swapped it into the car in my garage...the block never even saw the machine shop
I took a class in engine building a while ago so I had some experience. The engine runs smooth and passed smog no problem

I think I have all the tools aside from the ring compressor and the honer...but a buddy did a rebuild a while back so I'll borrow those.
I'm also curious about the other stuff I should change while I'm at it:
- Timing belt
- Water pump
- Machine head?
While I'm in there, anything I might as well do?

If you can buy a rebuild and have it ready and waiting to drop in while you pull your old motor..you can make it a one day swap..instead of atleast 2

only factory manual for me i think helms suck.....also a good rebuild will cost about 500.00 that is tru..... hone the cylinder walls....you dont need a ring compresser just use two little flat head wrench and some help tap the top and compress one by one.....send it to the machine shop at least just get hot tanked it will come out looking new and only use factory parts if you want it to last......

Factory Honda manuals=helms (they publish them for Honda of North America)
On the ring compressor comment you don't want any scratches on the rings, that would not be good. Why skimp and waste the money on a rebuild when you can get a top of the line band and locking pliers style ring compressor even from the Snapon dealer for $45.90 P/N RC980.
I definetely agree on the factory Honda parts for engine internals for just a general rebuild, it's part of the equation on what makes a Honda so reliable, high quality materials. If you want to skimp just go buy another motor with lower mileage and not waste your money.
