Default Rebuilding my B18C. Have some questions. All Motor.

I bought a JDM B18C from HMO a little under a year ago. I swapped it in and about a month after the break in period (1500 miles) it started to burn a lot of oil. Compression is good, so I think it might be the valve guide seals. Supposedly the engine had 34k miles on it when i got it. That's what Steve told me on the phone.

Anyways, it's winter, I wanted to rebuild my engine regardless and make over 200whp and it still be streetable/reliable. I wanted you guys to take a look at what my set-up is going to be and see if I overlooked anything.

Toda B's
Toda Valvetrain
Toda Cam Gears
Skunk2 IM
Mugen Headgasket
CTR Pistons

And possibly, if I have more money, port/polish the head.

I already have a JDM DC 4-1, Carsound Cat and 5zigen exhaust.

How does this sound to you guys? It's pretty basic. And after everything is together I'll get a Hondata and some dyno time. For now I just want to get my engine rebuilt before summer.

Another question I have: Do you think the CTR pistons are fine (10.8cr) or should I go with JDM ITR pistons instead (11.1cr)? I was thinking with the Mugen headgasket, the ITR's would be too much to run on the street.

You have your compression info a little backwards. CTR (PCT) pistons have an 8.63 cc dome, and JDM ITR (P73-00) pistons have a 5.96 cc dome. CTR pistons will yield higher compression. Sounds like a decent setup.

everything sounds good - id say skip the mugen headgasket..

and try to get the head ported

mike, the pct's will yield about 12.3:1 cr which is a little high. its not crazy high, but you might be better off going with the jdm p73 or pr3 or p30 pistons. they will all get you into the 11:1's which should be good for toda b's.

if you feel frisky though, go with the pct's. bigger cams love high compression
sounds like a good set-up. id think it will be good for 180-190whp with a good tune.

you might also want to consider a type r t-body and a hondata IM gasket. they will gain you another 5 or more hp across the board.

cool guys... thanks.

yeah, i want to run a 11:1cr. I've heard of people with a 12:1cr that still drive it on the street, but reliablility is still a big issue.

hopefully i can hit the 200whp mark.

not knockin, but doubtful.

also, read this... https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=700527

says that 11.5:1 is still to low for B's

Here's a setup we did recently for comparison:

LS/VTEC w/ ITR pistons
Stock GSR head with RS Machines valvetrain
RS MAchines camshafts
Bisimoto header
SKunk2 Intake manifold
and tuned with Hondata S200
pumped out 209hp to the wheels.

not bad for a mild setup.

you can run high compression on the street ...ive seen people run 13+ on the street it just takes alot more tuning ...

so you don't think 11:1 will be high enough? what can i do to up the compression a little more?

that does sound really good exospeed... i'll take a look at the Skunk2 Stage 1's, but i was set on getting the B's.

i have enough money for the cams and pistons, so i was going to order them pretty soon. if you have any sugestions, let me know. i want to do it right the frst time, that's why i'm turning to you All Motor junkies to point me in the right direction.

I was in your shoes last spring....I wanted a mild setup with 200+ whp. I would reccomend going with JDM ITR pistons, Skunk2 IM , port/polish head, 62 or 64mm tb, hondata s200, and I went with the RS Machine cams which were somewhat of a cross between toda Bs and Jun 3s. Stick with OEM head gasket, but also replace all of your bearings (I dont like to skimp on a rebuild regardless of mileage) should do the water pump and oil pump too. Good luck!

what he said but use the toda b's with the Mugen headgasket. Should be around 11.5/1 compression with this setup = perfect.. Balance the block while your at it. It'll spin like a mad dog. nice setup
