Default Rebuilt motor. Should it be consuming oil?

I had my motor entirely rebuilt with new OEM parts(like timing belt, water pump, oil pump, gaskets, etc). I'm running cp pistons with eagle rods. What I am wondering is do new motors consume oil? I am pretty sure I don't have a leak as I have kept a close eye for leaks, but it could be possible. It has consumed almost a quarter of a quart in 40 miles. I did the rough break in method and the rings should be pretty well seated(the car doesn't smoke when it's warm). What do you guys think? Thanks for any help.

Nate

I wasn't really tryin to help, just tell him what was wrong with mine. I have the same prob, just don't know whether he had a solution or if his engine eats it up like mine.

And so don't use synthetic? I like the oil and it is kinda expensive, but I've asked a few people and they have all said Castrol full syn is the best. Just like gas, I know I could run on 87 oc, but I would rather 91 for the best of the car. It costs a bit extra at the pump each time, but I love to waste money.

It is very normal for this kind of consumption. I have had engines consume oil for the first 2000 miles. Depending on the metal used in the piston rings, they may take some time to seat. I wouldn't worry about it now. If you still have consupmtion problems after 3000mi, there is a problem.

Ok, thanks guys! I won't worry about it then I'm using the crappiest oil I could find for break in. I'll probably switch over to synthetic after 1,000 miles since the turbo will be going on in a few days.

I am using syn oil now, but my engine isn't built. It is and has been stock, and of course you wouldn't start with syn oil if you got some new pistons and cams, etc.

VTEC does not consume oil, just requires more oil pressure.
