Default low compression in cyl #1 on a b20/vtec...

i was running a little lean when we first built it and i think it popped the cylinder, what are the consequences of running with low compression for a long period of time?,

sometimes on a cold morning i start my car and it sounds like a cammed v8, hard time idling, but once it gets warmed up its fine.

i have this wierd noise as well, not sure if its tire noise, but above 50mph it does it, below 49 its doesnt...so i dont get it...help me out here

main thing i am concerned with is the compression thing, i am replacing the rings within the next month

hmmm...so low compression equals bad rings?

Sometimes.....

when rings are fried, air from combustion chamber leaks down past them hence lowering compression....

Do you even know what the compression is? Compression test? Leak down test?

compression was

180,180,180,120

when oil added to the last cylinder it was 165...

havent done a leak down yet...

Yeah that wierd noise he was referring to is prolly his rings digging into the cylinder walls...

The noise you hear in the morning is a result of very poor compression until the motor warms up and the rings expand. Rings digging into the walls?- don't talk about what you don't know.

He has an OEM B20B bottomend here. Can a ring really become unseated/disturbed to the extent of digging into the cylinder walls? I don't see how that would be possible. I can understand if aftermarket rings were installed improperly, but we are talking OEM/untouched here.

Maybe you should read his first post again, this time more thoroughly... In his 1st paragraph, 1st sentence, it clearly states and I quote; "I was running a little lean when we first BUILT it, and I think it popped the cylinder"...

Reading comprehension ownz you...

When he said built he meant just put together. You cannot assume that his "built" meant what you may think of as built.

SLOWAZZHATCH AND I "PUT" THE MOTOR TOGETHER, as in, I was there when this very same motor he is referring to was "built". Haha, anymore ideas people?
