Is it a good or bad idea to go to Sears to get a battery?

not necessarily. keep in mind though that the OE battery or its equivalent weighs 40 lbs.

an SLA weighs 13...won't last as long though and may not be the best choice for adverse driving environments.

Thanks for the info. Never bought a car battery before so I really don't know what to look for.

But yeah, I live in the north east (meaning cold temperatures in the winter) so I guess the battery you suggested might not be a good idea?

If you want a stock like one just go to walmart. Yes they are nothing special batteries but they are dirt cheap ($40-50 range) and they come with a 5 year warranty. Plus it's Wal-Mart they will take back anything. So in 5 years go get a new one for free.
I wouldn't use one of them though if you have a system or are going for weight reduction. I had one once in a car and forgot my headlights on for 5 hrs and the car still started...
