Hey,
Well I think I need a bottom end rebuild on my Civic, people that have had this done how much did it run? I have a 89 Civic std. model, thanks!

Yeah if i'm correct about honing...you should be fine as long as the cylinder walls are smooth. You may want to replace your rod bearings if they are worn as well. You'll have them out when you take the pistons/rods out anyway. I dunno how much they run but probably around 50. Just inspect them...maybe post up a pic so people can evaluate them when you take them out.
Good luck

If the cylinder walls are shiney then you definetely need to hone them. If they are scored because the rings are coked into the pistons and aren't free then the pistons them selves will score the cylinder wall. You might be able to get away with a light hone job to reintroduce cross hatching. Cross hatching is there for a reason for lubrication it holds oil in the cylinder walls and lubricates the rings.
Figure $400-500 in parts (rings, seals, head gasket, timing belt, waterpump, and all main and rod bearings) for good quality Honda parts on a reliable rebuild job plus $100+ to get block cleaned, decked if needed and cylinders honed. It's a good idea to have them check for uneven cylinder wall wear if this is the case you are going to have to bore over and get new rings and pistons as well. I would recommend doing this to at the very least a D16A6 motor not really worth it on a D15B1/2 for just a stock rebuild. DX/base model motors are a dime a dozen anyhow most people throw them away and good motors can be had.
Good luck

this is my normal bottom end rebuilt cost
head gasket $55
main rod bearings $45
rod bearings $65
Oil pan gasket $14
Main seals $15
piston rings set $66
engine assembly lube $5
renting the honning and ring compressor $03 (u get it back)
engine degreaser $6
carb choke cleaner( cleans everything) $6
lots of montain dew $4.50

i used hastings rings, $47 from my machine shop. i also did a complete engine rebuild on my b17 and bought a rock gasket set from my machine shop for like $120. hone was free for me, normally $6 per cylinder, and the hot tank is about 50. if you are doing a rebuild, you need to hone it. it is absurd to pull the motor apart and not hone it. and do not reuse your old rings! make sure you clean the ring gaps in the pistons and set your gaps right. also replace the timing belt and water pump.
god im so glad i have hookups

I could be wrong on this, but when someone says "bottom-end", doesn't that usually mean rod and crank bearings as well as the above.
I always thought it did.

i posted the realistic numbers
if i post my hookups....
i pay 30 for a Z6 head gasket, 36 for rings, 35 for rod bearings, 28 for main bearings, 7 for oil pan gasket, etc
