Default Should I rehone the cylinders? B16A w/ new bottom end

Before I install the SRP pistons, crower rods, and JE rings, should I rehone the cylinders? The crosshatch is still very prevalent, and only a few minor scratches, but none of the scratches catch on to my fingernails and do not span the length of the cylinder. I have sanded the rings to the proper end gap and everything is a go. The plastigage came back with the right tolerances on the ACL bearing to rod journals. Let me know guys and I appreciate your help.

It doesn't need a hone, but it's always recommended to "de-glaze" the cylinder walls when installing new rings. De-glazing removes almost no material and makes a good cross hatch for correct ring break in.

I would definately make a few passes with one of those hones you can find in local part stores. You dont really need a machince shop just to deglaze the cylinders but it might be a good idea if your not comfortable with it.

They mean put a very light, quick hone on it to "rough up" the surface to help everything wear in together.

"Glazing" means that the walls have been microscopically worn down some to where they are much smoother than they were when new, even if you can still see some factory honing marks. It's just like running really high grit sandpaper over a rough surface. It barely affects how many scratches you can see, but it makes the surface much smoother to the touch.

Thanks guys. I will pick up a hone from NAPA and give a quick round. Have to pickup new mainifold bolts anyway. First time rebuilding a motor. I hope it works.

I hear that most people use a ball hone.. I found them to be more than just taking it to a machine shop and getting them to do a lite hone(deglaze) on it.. I think I paid like $30 for the lite hone on my B16..
