It's an excellent tire at a bargain price.

Tire Rack tested the ES100 against the 712 and the ES100 won in 23 out of 23 categories.

https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=706286 that is my opinion...

many people disagree, but my reasons are there. i think it really comes down to the tyres you are comparing them to.

Of course it does. There are better tires on the market, such as the Bridgestone Potenza S-03, the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3, and Yokohama's own AVS Sport. But those top-of-the-line tires are all substantially more expensive than the AVS ES100.

And when I say "better", I am referring to dry traction, wet traction, and handling. If you have a different set of priorities - for example, if you are looking for the tire that lasts the longest, or is the cheapest - then another tire might be better for you.

But the Yokohama AVS ES100 offers excellent performance - just a tad less than the top-of-the-line tires, but darn close - for significantly less money. The Tire Rack sells the 195/55-15 (stock size for the GS-R and ITR) for $58/tire, which is half the price of some other tires.

It's your choice. Do the research. There are excellent test results for most of the major tires on the Tire Rack website. Decide what your priorities are. Then make your decision by choosing the tires that meets those priorities best.

in terms of initial grip, yes, they are very close to expensive rubber. the problems arrise once you get a bit of heat into them. they are nowhere near the more expensive rubber when you start to abuse them.
as i said, they go off within two hard laps, i've had other street tyres (which were cheaper) that didn't do that to me...

i just installed a set on my car and i like them. They have good dry and wet grip at a great price. I went from falken azenis to the yokohamas and the es100's grip much better in the rain. Overall they're great tires for the money.
