Default Help, my car leans out. Could it be my ecu? ------>

B16 Sir2 Everything stock
Prospeed chipped P28 VTEC at around 5500-5700 no rev limiter

Not sure where to start. Installed an Autometer A/F gauge and I noticed the car leans out while im driving. While the speed and rpm are climbing switching gears, its fine. But as soon as I reach the cruising speed I want to stay, it leans out. Same thing if Im coming to a stop and revmatch to downshift, it will remain lean all the way down. Sometimes it leans out too much that none of the LED's are on. But when I put the car in neutral, it will rich back out. I hooked up my dmm and made sure that the a/f gauge was receiving the correct voltage from the ecu. And sure enough it is.

Seems to me that the program was set to increase fuel when the speed is going up. Unlike other programs that have the fuel affected by RPM. Or is this programs work in the first place? Please help!!!

Im considering buying a Mugen chip and trying that instead. I dont want a chip with a VTEC engagement due to a lot of highway driving. 80mph is about 4300rpm on my car.

I have a VAFC but its not hooked up yet. I would like to get that working and see if it could help me out. But if im leaning out due to the chip, then would the VAFC correct it back to normal?

A couple things:

First everyone is going to tell you an Autometer A/F gauge and a narrow band O2 sensor are nearly worthless in gauging AFR.

Second, Ive read your post and you didnt mention if the car was hesitating or bogging. Every car will run lean when cruising and especially when decelerating. If your AFR stayed at 12.5 or whatever 100% of the time you would get 5 miles to the gallon. So Im going to say thats normal behavior unless your having a problem caused by this condition.

Thirdly, I wish people didnt even buy the Autometer A/F gauge. 90% of ppl who buy them freak out when they see the wild, inconsistant readings and think something is wrong with their car when in fact its perfectly fine.

Thankx for the reply.

Yes you are right, I have come to learn that just about nobody approves of using the Autometer A/F gauge.

But my car does not hesitate nor bogg down at all. I have just never seen how any one elses A/F gauge behaives. But when I first plugged in the gauge, it would indicate that the car would not lean out as much. So I had to unplug it to relocate it and now it shows that im leaning out more.

Im also thinking that there could be another posibility that the guage could be off. I wired the Pos+ of the gauge from the IG that the cig lighter uses. Which I also used to power an OIL Press & Water Temp Guages. All three gauges have the same ground too. I know that in a parallel circuit the voltage would split accross each device. But im not sure if that would have an affect on displaying inaccurate readings.

run positives off of a different source...im pretty sure you can ground in the same location though. On the fuse box, there are some empty male spade connections and some of those are a constant 12v and others are a switched 12v. Just crimp a female spade and plug it in!
