Bridgestone tires same problems as Firestone!?
I went in to a Big-O tires store in Arizona on Sat. and I asked the guy how much for some RE-010's and he said that he would not sell me any Bridgestone tires because they are owned by Firestone and are just as dangerous as the Firestone tires.
At this point I just kind of laughed and walked out on the guy.
Has anyone else had this happen to them??

Yeah, I thought about that too! When Firestone had problems with all of their tires, which Bridestone is a sister company with too. I still bought some RE-730 about a 8 months ago. To replace my stock RE-010 and I don't have any problems with these tire so far. I guess, it didn't effect the Bridestone tires because their made in Japan and Firestone are made in US. IMO: so much for being american made, then again look at the cars we made as amercians. As for me, I wouldn't buy an american car!
The reason for the failure of Firestone will not effect the higher qualities of Bridgestone.
That sales person is pretty ignorant. He probably don't have Bridgestone in stock and want to pursuade you to buy other brands.
Like said above, Bridgestone <especially oem RE010s> are made in Japan. The bad patch of Firestones are the bargain tires for SUVs not for sports car. And most importantly, the real reason behind the bad batch of Firestone tires are not its design but due to the fact of nearly 6 months(?) of worker strike in the Firestone U.S. plant, that's is the main reason of irresiponsible workmanship on those tires. I've never ever heard of any Bridegestone tires have peeled out threads.
Go back there and get your RE010s, if he's keep saying the samething, tell him the facts. And if he's really ignorant enough not to sell those tires even he have them in stock....if I were you I'll buy like 16 tires and ask him for $20 each.
P.S. I thought Bridgestone OWNS Firestone, not the other way around...Firestone is just a sibling of Bridgestone.

I would agree with the above, that guy is an idiot. If you really want the RE-010 try Tire Rack and forget about Big-HO. The RE-010 were a bit too pricey for me so for 20-30 bucks less, I went with Bridgestone SO-3's. I like them so far, had them for 3 months. I went with 205/50/15 since I couldn't get them in 195's. good luck with the tire search.

I'm a contractor at Bridgestone/Firestone and there is nothing wrong with ANY of their tires. That was overblown media crap and nothing more. Not to make light of those people dying, but there were too many other factors involved, and it was too easy to blame the tires, so thats what happened. The vehicle was just as much to blame, as was improper tire inflation, yadda yadda yadda. Nuf said about that.
At any rate, Bridgestone is japanese, and they bought Firestone a few years back.
FYI, the Firestone SZ50's that i had on my 300zx were the best tires I've ever owned.

Bugger the RE010s (which are a good tyre)....get the B'stone RE711s, if you can get them in the States?! I just had my second set put on, over the weekend and they are fantastic!!
