Anyone with the Viper 690VX (alarm system)? I need help programming it.
I just got a Viper 690VX installed today and have been kinda toying with it. I'm confused on a couple of the programming features though and was hoping someone could shed some light since the instruction manual is a bit vague on them...
-What exactly are the Channel Zones and how do they work?
-how is the AED activated?
-How do you configure the full-trigger response and the siren tones?
-What's valet mode?
I hope these questions aren't too brain dead, I'd just like to know how to get the most out of this alarm and keep my car the most secure (this has been the most expensive mod I have yet to do!)

Ok...I'm a Auto sound specialist from Circuit City down in Cali, let me see if I can help you out a bit...
Q#1: The zones correspond to the different sensors that were installed into your vehicle, the table of zones is located on page 26 of the owners manual. There are 5 zones corresponding to the different sensors and the alarm will flash the lights a certain number of times depending on which zone was triggered.
Q#2: The AED (Automatic Engine Disable) Is automatically armed when you arm your alarm, assuming you had the failsafe starter kill system installed.
Q#3: The full-trigger response (The length of time the alarm sounds before cancelling itself is automatically set to 30 seconds from the factory, and depending on your states laws regarding nuisances is ususally the only setting you will be able to use legally.
Q#$: Valet mode disables the vehicle's alarm siren and shock sensors while maintaining the door locks, truck pop and other "convienience items installed with the system.
As a side note, if you are interested in further protecting you car, you might be interested in getting the Viper VRS (Vehicle Recovery System). It's similar to the lowjack but is integrated with the Viper alarm systems. For more info on this, check out Directed Inc.'s (The manufacturer of Viper Alarms) website at http://www.directed.com . I hope this helps somewhat....let me know if you have any more questions.

Wow, thanks for the info!
I'll be looking into that VRS thing once I can scrape up some more cash (holiday season has got me drained). Thanks again and happy holidays

is there a cheaper alternative? that is mainly meant for high end cars. or ppl that aren't on a budget like a college student that works a lot to afford his baby...
this isn't an add-on this is an actual system isn't it?!
