Default Ls/Vtec rev-ability..

I was wondering what ill be able to rev my motor to safely with this stuff done to my motor, ive searched and i can't find exactly what ill be able to rev it to. I want it to be reliable because it is my daily driver..

B18b1 block with 130K miles
b18c1 head with 130K miles slighltly milled, slightly P&P'ed
stock head gasket
golden eagle or full-race ls/vtec dowel pins
golden eagle oil line kit
ARP head studs
ARP rod bolts
ARP main bolts
gsr oil pan
gsr pick up
gsr windage tray
gsr girdle.

i might add CTR pistons also..

i plan on using stock injectors with a gsr ecu with a vafc. also a B&M FPR and maybe an inline fuel pump.

How safely could i rev this motor? I wouldn't be reving high all the time due to daily driving but i plan to be able to take it up to a pretty high RPM to be able to beat some stock sohc turbo civics, civic si's and be able to beat gsr's. I just want to have a decent amount of power.

Also, what oil should i use? I was thinking maybe Mobil 1 synthetic 5w-30 or should i go to a 0 weight?

sounds pretty safe to rev all the way to 9.5-10K, but making power that high is a diff story.

Doesn't mean you have all the above will let u rev to 9.5-10K Rpm. Don't listen to that stupid *** ***** that just replied about that.

Let me ask you a question. Have you done anything to your crankshaft? Did you even replace all the bearings? What rods you plan on using?

Remember if you want reliability and to rev high, do it the right way and replace all the bearing and to balance and blueprint your whole bottom end and ARP headstuds is a must.

i have a similar set-up as you gsr head on a b18a block w/ arp head bolts ls rods and b16 pistons i THINK i have vtec bearings ect. but im not sure but i recently ran a 13.3 shifting at 8k so id say with an ls block or stock head u should shift at 8 and that to me is alreayd pushing the limit if u want safe dont rev your motor high because there is always a potention of blowing when you race your car

you need springs and retainers. Especially, if you plan on installing some wild cams later. Botom end should be balanced, but not a must. Hondas come well balanced if no one has fucked with it. However, the head should be preped, like springs & retainers. Dyno your car first, that will let you know what you need to rev to!

If you want it to last, then don't race it!!!!! You're maximizing you motor to the extreme when you race, all kinds of things can go wrong. Be prepared to blow **** up. It's what we all pay for the rush, and live and learn. The more you break **** , the stronger you motor will become. Because you will replace it with stronger parts. When we break ****, all we are doing is finding the weak links in our motors.

If you have not replaced you valvetrain at all. DO NOT rev past about 8200 RPM.
not to mention you will not make power there.

I built an LS/VTEC in 1999 that has been sold twice and been in three different cars that now has over 50,000 miles on it reving to a comfortable 8200 rpm with stock valvetrain.

Yep, stock head 8200 RPM. That is what I rev mine to. If you upgrade the valvetrain then you should be able to rev it till it stops making power.

figure it out on the dyno, where does power drop off? as long as you are confident in the head and bottom end parts and labor. without cams you should see power drop a at 8200 anyway combo cant support much more power. i dont know about running 0 weight oil with your mileage. 5w will be fine and if there was a power difference its only a couple hp max.
