You probably did the test wrong.

,or it could have been the tester you used.

As long as they are all +/- 20psi, you're fine.

10% deviation is bomb. 25% deviation is ok. I have a GS(ls motor) and my last compression test was 160 across. You might wanna check if that tester was good and is they did the test correctly.
BTW: anyone think that 160 is too low for my ls? car runs good just wondering.

i think 160-180 is the supposed to be the range for ls's and 200+ for gsr's. headgasket need to be replaced maybe?

Just hold ignition fully turned to start - just like a cold hard start keep the key turned all the way until the need on the compression tester has stopped.

thanks how. no gas needed. pull fuel injector fuse (ecu 15amp).

Gas IS needed. Compression test should be done at WOT.

i checked out that link on how to do a compression test. the guy that wrote the DIY says that results for a b18c should be about 270 psi, with a minimum of 140 psi, and no more than 28 psi difference between cylinders. just wondering how accurate this sounds. not to second guess, but 270 seems high compared to numbers you guys are mentioning. would 200 all across be ok? ie: does lower compression, mean worse, even if all cylinders give similar results?

I Just did a comp. test yesterday. I got 155 across. My car wasnt at running temp. when I did the test. My LS has 144K and been boosted for 260 miles and running healthy so far. Sound right anyone?

you have head work and valves, did they do any dome work which will change the results, also you have .25mm overpstons, did do maintain factry specs for piston to wall clearance???? hey nobady ever does the test right, this is old news, as long as numbers same across all 4 cylinders, your fine.
