Default Muffler shop says they can't install a carsound cat on obd2?

i went to a local muffler shop and the guy said something about not being able to install a carsound cat on my car because they weren't made for it or something? i thought all he had to do was weld on a o2 bung for me? maybe he was just being lazy.

Anyone know where i can get a bolt on 2.25 carsound cat for my car?

Same thing happened to me. Mine was actually a bolt-on Carsound. It's illegal in CA to change the cat on OBD2. Unless of course the reason is a bad cat. What they did for me was modified my stock cat to fit my header and exhaust. And I would just switch cats when I get home.

You can get a bolt-on cat from SMSP or Mike M on this board.

Well its illegal EVERYWHERE to modify your cat in any way shape or form, so that could have something to do w/ it.

Correct. It is illegal in any state to remove or modify a functional catalytic converter. Some shops will force you to sign a waiver stating you will not drive it on public roads (hence releasing them from liability).

if youre a new customer that comes off the street, shops are gonna stick by the books and decline your request to mod a perfectly working cat. Just how things go.

So what happens when you come to a muffler shop with a open downpipe, thats what happened to me a couple months and the shop gave me no problems at all with my carsound

thanks guys i never knew that. Guess i'll have to go with a bolt on cat $$$. Any links to good deals? TIA

that shop for some reason has problems only with obd2 cars or "newer cars" like he said. I guess older cars usually have bad cats.

in cali running no cat is just as good as running an aftermarket cat IMO i wouldnt go to a smog station running anything other than stock exhaust wise.
