gas gauge problem, please help!!!

Default gas gauge problem, please help!!!

a few days ago i noticed burning alot of gas , more then normal, at first i though it was bkuz my exhuast cracked right behind the resignator so im running with no pipes or muffler after the res. but when i burned a half of tank of gas on a 10 min drive i new something was up . so i went on a back road and launched and went up to 3rd ge ar and i w atched my gas guage just shoot to empty then after crusing it goes back up. even during light acceleration it goes down alot then crawls ba ck up, anyone kno how to fix this? thanks

check these two things---
1. try replacing your instrument cluster with another
2. check for any loose connections (fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, in-tank fuel pump, fuel injectors)
3. check your fuel leveler (underneath the plate near the in-tank fuel pump location) *** a friend of mine found out the level stick broke off giving him a "full" tank reading on his gauge cluster ***
