Default What sensors does JDM ITR have vs. USDM

When the delarship did the swap; they had never worked with JDM engine; and of course I had no idea..so wasted a lot of money.

It threw a bunch of codes; and wasn't ideling right; they swaped a bunch of stuff from my GSR engine into the JDM to make codes go away. I was using a USDM ECU; i'm so stupid; I should have saved all the labor they charged me and just bought a harness for my jdm ecu! no codes..no parts needed to be swaped. Oh well..life sucks.

I am wondering what sensors the JDM lacks that they woudl have needed to swap in? I remember them saying the Crankshaft position sensor or the Crankshaft Speed Fluctuation seensor..the ICV (maybe)..VTEC oil pressure (which I figured out with H-T peeps help)...knock sensor..(which I'm told by plugging in i'm losing power)..what else?

JDM have EGR valve? dont see it in the same place as my GSR; and I don't think they mentioned that as one of the codes.

is someone knows i'd appercaite the insight as to what the difference in
sensors are..what JDM is lacking..what they do..and if by plugging them up I
did myself harm as far as power...

thanks!

The car should work fine if you have a OBD-I car but you didn't state your setup.

The JDM motor does not have the crank fluctuation sensor, VTEC pressure, and secondary O2 (there may be more). If you want to make it easy on yourself just get a JDM or OBD-I ECU. You don't need a JDM harness because it won't fit right in anyway (RHD layout). If you live in an area that has emissions inpections you can use a OBD-I GS-R ECU to pass. If you live in CA, you might want to ask someone who knows more about it than me.

i have a 2000 GSR /OBD2B
swaped in 1999 JDM ITR; came with JDM P73 OBD2a
used orginal GSR wiring harness; ended up having to do those swaps
for sensors.
currently using USDM P73 ecu that is OBD2b; so that it plugged right up.
threw a bunch of codes; only one left to solve; vtec oil switch.

was curious which sensors JDM misses; why; and how it effects performance?

The Crank Fluctuation Sensor (CKF) is used to sense any change in the crankshaft speed. This is used to help detect any knocking. Because predetonation acts against the rotation of the crankshaft, there will be a instantaneous decelleration in the crankshaft speed during predetonation. Although the knock sensor is adequate in taking care of this, USDM ECUs have this sensor also.

The secondary O2 sensor measures the oxygen content after the catalytic convertor. This measures the efficiency of the cat. If it reads out of the parameters, it will throw a code. THis is the biggest reason why people do not like OBD-II. They cannot run without a cat unless they get an O2 simulator.

The VTEC pressure switch is there to regulate whether the spool valve (VTEC solenoid) is operating correctly. I am not sure why this is needed but I assume it is because they do not want you running VTEC in lower RPMs since the emissions would be greater. Or perhaps they don't want you running without VTEC at higher RPMs. What you need to do is swap VTEC solenoids from your GSR to you ITR motor.

My advice to you is to use your JDM ECU and get a harness adapter. It is the easiest to do and does not mess with any of the factory wiring. Good luck.

I second that... use the jdm ecu... its an obd1 program in an obd2 box... its only looks for 1 o2, it doesn't look for the CKF sensor and it doesn't look for the VTEC pressure switch...

good place to buy OBD2b-> OBD2a harness?

Is it worth using the JDM ECU now that I paid for the labor
to get the crank shaft fluc sensor put in? Also; knock sensor
plugged in; only thing left is the VTEC soleniod which I already took
off my GSR...

Second O2 also put in; using CATCO cat...
I do still have the JDM P73 ECU sitting here; but I don' tknow if worth
buying the harness at this point; should have just dont this in the
first place!
Suggestions?

Wish the installers had been as smart as you guys...

plan on going turbo this spring..better to have the "OBDI" JDM P73
Ecu; make a difference?
