Default My beater car lowered the insurance on the R!!?

As some of you know I picked up a 91 Si as a beater car. I went to add it to my insurance, liability only (the car only cost $700). When she totaled up the new policy it actually came out less! From now until my next billing cycle in Feb having the beater is lowering my payment $380, which is only 3 months. On top of that they are waiving this months payment. Over six months I'm looking at basically a $100 drop per month.

I'm not going to question it, but I guess they figure I won't be driving the R as much? Only thing I can figure.

My insurance payment is now less than my car payment , sad I know, but good news.

Yep, my multi-car discount was more than the cost of insurance on my beater as well. But then I had a claim.. so that was no longer true.

did you tell your insurence company that this car is going ot be your daily driver? if they know that the R will not be driven as much they will lower the price.

I can't wait until I hit 25. My insurance before the drop was a staggering $426 a month . Of course this is to be expected considering I've never had a wreck and there is only 1 ticket on my record

Heck what if every ITR owner just bought some junk car for $100 or so and got insurance on it? Who cares if it even ran or not, just leave it chillin out to lower insurance costs.

You were paying $426/month for car insurance on a $25K car? Tell me that is for 6 months or something, because no car is worth that much money in insurance IMO.

Yeah I pay about 350 a month for insurance but I have a terrible record. My insurance is one reason why I am thinking about getting rid of the R.

No that is PER MONTH. Thankfully I have a house my grandparents left to me that I rent out to cover the cost.

Alabama is one of the most retarded states ever when it comes to lawsuits. I believe that is part of the reason.

Ouch man! $426 a month?!?! Do you have a $0 deductible?

I'm at less than half that with 1 ticket and 2 wrecks(1 totalled my Integra) on my M3!

Had nothing on my record until I came up to crazy *** Atlanta tho'... Stupid drivers here.

Can't wait till I get a beater though. I'm counting the days!

My dad is the main driver of my ITR, and I'm the main driver of a 1996 honda civic. That helps.... $800/6 months

when i added my beater car to my insurance it actually lowered the cost as well.... i originally paid about $206 a month for the R (full coverage 250 deductable) alone..... I then added the 93 prelude si on there( with full coverage, 500 deductable) and my payments went down to $196 a month.....

i didn't think that was that bad considering im only 19... but i have a super clean record

Yeah, i called Geico yesterday to inquire about adding a '98 ITR to my policy - they said it would be just under $50/month to cover it. My coverage is not great, but not shitty either. $500 deductables.

w00t.

I know .....i just added my beater back to the insurance when i got it running ....

I wasnt expecting a discount , but they classified the ITR as a lesuire car, and the 89 Integra as a primary ....

So instead of paying 740 every three months ......i now pay 505.oo ...

Believe it or not, but when I had my 1990 Mazda MX-6GT and the ITR on my policy, the Mazda only cost me $400/ yr.

When I dropped the Mazda and added the 1990 Civic Si, the Si cost me $700/yr..

Dang.. I would think the Mazda would cost more because it is quicker and has a turbo.

when i added my beter to my insurance, the multi-car discount was more then the additional cost of insuring the beater with liability,so my insurance went down about $100 a year!

Same thing happened to me that happened to this stunna.

My insurance went down about 5% by adding my crx, but then went back to where it started after my claim. All in all, not bad.... two cars insured for the price I had been insuring my R.

I live right outside of Philly and I have an 88 CRX with 160,000 on the clock. It has a mismatched fender ( whole car is red and fender is a different red ). It is the base model but it has the 91 SI wheels on it and the seats as well. It was recently inspected and runs great for its age. I am looking for $600 if anyone in the area needs a beater. Sorry no pics but I could meet up with someone local if anyone is interested.
