Whats up fellas, I just got an EF Hatch w/ a DOHC ZC, perfect sraight body, but the only problem is the clutch is gone and needs new tranny, I am going to fix it myself, and i was wondering what is the Best way to take off my tranny, using a cherry picker (i have one so this is possible) and take the motor out of the engine bay??? or any other suggestions from peeps are expierenced in this, Also the tranny that is on right now is a 4speed, and i want to put on a 5 speed, anything i need to have or do to make this 5 speed tranny work??? I want and need to save labor money, Well thanks in advance
the easiest way would be to pull the whole engine and do it that way. as for the 4 to 5 speed swap, its just the tranny, as long as you get a 5 speed tranny, your set
For your clutch install, you will not need to pull the motor. I just got done putting an ACT in my CR-X. Just start digging in to it and be sure to look around carefully so nothing is missed. Get your flywheel machined and torque the pp corectly. To change the tranny you will need the folowing: 5Sp. tranny (preferably Si), hubs from a 88-91 CR-X Si or DX or any 5Sp. 88-91 Civic, and axles from any of the cars that I listed previously. Just take your time and have fun learning how to wrench on your own car! Best of luck...if you need more help jsut IM me.
You do not NEED to remove the motor with the tranny to do a clutch swap, but it is alot easier. I would check the timing belt at the same time. If you need to replace the timing belt, that is easier to do with the motor out as well.
my vote is to leave the motor in..
I have swaped scores of motors and plenty of tranny drops..
two at race tracks..

Bingo that's the way to do it, it's not that hard at all. The biggest pain is lifting it back up in place, it helps to have 2 people for that part, but i've done it many times by myself. I'm actually doing it in about 2 weeks.

I wouldn't let the engine sag on one mount..
not good for that mount..

it doesnt hang on the mount. actually the alternator and part of the crank pulley will be hitting the frame rail if you let it come all the way down, i just figured i didnt have to mention to use a jack..

take the tranny out from the bottom just leaving the one engine mount as listed before just did it in my gf's 90 hatch with a zc and it doesn't take that long to do and i have limited tools aswell so it's easy to do.
