Default Anyone interested in Carbon Fiber IC piping?

Well since its winter break and me and a friend are bored for the next month we've been toying with the idea of making Carbon Fiber IC piping, not complete piping (unless there was enough demand), more specifically the Pipe from the TB to the fenderwell, and a Drag/Revhard style Air intake pipe. The upper charge pipe would be available with your choice of BOV flange....Basically im Just wondering if there would be any intrest in products like this if priced competitively (ie, cheaper than Drag/revhard piping) before we go and make molds. BTW: This isn't some backyard operation...My friend Races in the Formula Atlantic series and him and his father design and produce carbon/fiberglass Noses, diffusers, wings, etc for alot of SCCA cars..

Let me know what ya think

Is there any benefits using CF over other metals?

i think there would be benefit in cooling property but other than that not really that much of benefit over alumnium pipe. Both would work great though. I might be interested

Most def get a price. I would be very interested. The CF wouldn't transfer the heat as bad as aluminized piping and would be bling as hell!

i like the idea as i want to make some for myself but probably out of kevlar/carbon. it could be the next big thing. you know anything carbon fiber sells. and if they make cf intake manifolds that people boost on, why wouldn't the pipings hold boost? they would. do it man.

I know the piping won't have a problem holding the boost

Do you guys think $150-$175 for the upper charge pipe w/bov flange is reasonable? What about $60-$75 for the intake pipe? Please try not to flame if you have no clue the time/effor that goes into quality carbon fiber work

Let me know what you think?

alot more than anyone would ever run on a honda lol...alot of the materials for bonding the metal-carbon are rated at 100+ psi..

the carbon fiber piping wont weigh any les than a aluminum piping cuase for the pipe youd have to have a skeleton to wrap the carbon fiber with so that defeats the purpose, but as bling factor id say youll get alot of attention. and you also have to watch the resin once the carbon fiber is layed becuase of the fact that the resin due to heat it will turn into a whitish color id say if your wanting to buid something that really is useful id say make a b-series turbo manifold out of titanium and offer it at a low price that would be a bit more useful. jsut my .02 cents.

Its not wrapping anything, we have a 2 piece mold of the upper charge pipe. The upper charge pipe should not be getting extremely hot if you have a good effiecent IC, most of the resins are good to 400 deg anyways...

We have made a few molds so far, were just working on perfecting them..

I'm definitely interested. We'd need to work out the inside diameter sizes though.
