Default Car broken in to!! <GRR>

Car got broken in to while I was at work for only an hour. Took the stereo and that was all. Weird thing was the alarm was set off, no broken windows or anything. No idea how they got in. I have RS handles, no key holes in my door handles.

The alarm indicates the door was opened and that set off my alarm; so maybe they used a slim jim. Is it possible to use a slim jim on the R? That is the only way I can think that they could have gotten in.

Only good thing in all of this is that I have no deductible for theft so it won't cost me anything to fix/replace the stereo system.

Sucks though; my bicycle got stolen yesterday. Not my week.

if u never disconnected ur power locks. they could stick a hanger in the window and pull up on the power lock toggle from inside the car

Weird. Because if you removed your door lock in the door handle, you would have to remove the rod that goes from the lock cylinder to the locking mechanism. That is what the slim jim actually moves to unlock the door. That is a tough one.

Yeah, that rod was removed in both doors. So I have no idea how the hell they got in. I really want to find out! Maybe I should hire some locksmith to see if he can slim jim my car.

The worst part of all this is not knowing how they got in!

One weird thing again was that they did something with my gas tank opener handle. Cause they broke it off. Maybe they did somethign with that??

it is always possible they opened the trunk.

also, you said you have RS handles. thats for the outside and inside, or just outside? do you still have the little push up/down lock things engaged?

The little lock things are still connected but are hanging inside the door somewhere. Not exactly accessible. Does this matter? Should they be completely disconnected for a reason?

Not sure how they would do the trunk; maybe...but they would need a key then. These guys just took the stereo. Not my sun glasses of V-AFC, or anything else in the car. So I gotta imagine the alarm going off surprised them.

if those thingys are still connected.. they would of been triggered still. im not exactly sure how. but say they messed with the trunk lock, that could of unlocked the doors. next step for you would be to disconnect those little buttons, and also try to disconnect the trunk too, so you can ONLY use a KEY to open it. do you have your VIN covered?? if not, they could of gotten the # and got a key made for the trunk.

Dayum that sux!! Sorry for your loss.

Not lost tho, is the point that the thieves have everything completely dialed. They know all the tricks, including the one's we do to our cars. They know the parts to take, and how to get in and out quick.

We *really* need to come up with some new countermeasures quick. Too bad we cant post them here.

it's fortunate that your car did not get stolen completely. so many R's going down this Dec. anyway, check your alarm system. i've heard of alarm systems not locking the trunk when armed although the two doors are locked.

What I wanna know is what kind of shady scumbags will buy an OEM radio once it gets on the market? WTF is wrong with people? I mean none of them can possibly claim they didn't know or couldn't tell it was stolen!

Not a day goes by that i dont think the same thing man. Its just no fun having to worry about a damn car all time. Especially after mine being keyed last week, i only have to pay a $200 deductable but damn i shouldnt have to pay anything you know. It just sucks that you have to babysit you car if you want to have one.

maybe you didn't really lock your door? i know it sounds dumb..but it happens to my car once in a full moon.
i get out of my car, close the door, and arm the car. during that "once in a full moon", the alarm will arm itself, but will not lock the door. thats why when i arm the car i make sure the doors lock.
curious how much your insurance is for no deductible?? i went w/the $1000 deductible to save quite a bit of money..i'd say i've saved over that $1000 in the first couple of policy periods.

The car was definately locked because when I got to it and hit the unlock button it chirped three times indicating a door alarm was triggered (i.e. someone opened the door when the alarm was active).

As for the RS bezels, I have them.

I am almost positive this was done with a slim jim. I am going to look in to preventing that but all that may do is make theives break my windows instead.

Maybe tinting would help? I thought about that too. Then they can't see inside my car.

As for insurance, I consider myself smart, I set my comprehensive deductible to $0. So it is costing me nothing to get this taken care of.

Any ideas on preventing slim jimming?
