Are JDM engine swaps legal in Canada?
I've got a question that for me is very important, cuz this is currently my plan, but are b16a's (JDM) legal in Canada? Specifically ontario? I was just reading another post about a guy having a hell of a time trying to make his car legal and pass the smog test in California. In ontario we also have emissions tests and safety cert. that he have to pass every 1 or two years, and the stock 91 CX hatch I just got passed (of course
) but will a b16? help!

My setup: ZC with CAI, 4-2-1 SS header, CATCO 2.25, APEXi exhaust, advanced timing. Ran WAY clean, passed with no problem, even under stock conditions. Swapped cars are considered KIT cars in Ontario, so the are subject to less strict emmissions. Go to http://www.driveclean.com and you'll see. So yes, it's legal and you should pass, unless the motor is running hella rich, like a friend of mine
Just swap it. BTW, let me know if you want a good hookup on a motor, I'll see what I can do. DON'T get ripped off, esp. in Toronto (lots'o crooked shops). HTH Kerry

Just passed my emissions test on Wednesday!
The guy at the emissions centre told me that aslong as the motor came out of a civic then it's ok.

if it fits in the engine bay all the emission equipment as well as safety equipment are retained its fine, also get a receit otherwise you might be harassed by cops if they pull you over...so yes JDM or any country b16a is legal longest it passes emissions and safety......even if it doesn't pass as regular motor, then register it as a hot rod vehicle....but 99% of motors and swap when done right will not pose a problem...
Well that's fantastic!
As I thought before Toronto is the best city in the world for racing
SO now all I have to do is get the cash together.
Oh and as for the garage I plan to go to Progressive Racing in Toronto, if anyone has heard of them or used them. So far from what I've checked out it's real sweet, check the site if you're interested, progressiveracing.com. Thanks!

$2800 installed. Actually, that sounds really good. They seem to have done plenty of cars, so they have experience. Those aren't HASPORT mounts though, they look like redshiftracing mounts, I don't know what difference that is. For the DIY'er, $1100 for the Motor/ECU/trans. $800 for the linkage and mounts (F@#$ exchange!) add axles, oil, coolant, and $2800 sounds like a bargain IMHO. HTH Kerry
