Default Valve float?

Im getting a set of webcams for my h23. I dont plan on doing any other modifications to the head at the time and someone was saying that I needed to worry about valve float? I searched but couldnt find anything, do I need to worry about this with stage 1 cams?

If I were you I'd ask Webcams what they think. I personally don't know how much more aggressive a cam the stock h23 valvetrain can reliably handle.

Just upgrade to heavier lb springs. Whats the lift on the cams?

I thought webcams didn't offer anything for the h23 valvetrain

whats the max lift the stock H23 springs can handle? Valve float happens when the valves are opening and closing at high rates. If the valve springs dont produce enough pressure to be able to close the valve in time before it reopens, it will float. This is normally at high RPM ranges 8K+. As long as you dont plan on reving to sky high RPMs you should be fine, but check your current springs to see whats the maximum lift.

Stage I cams are usually mild, and stock head components can be used.

ask web cams
the lift is important as well as the rpm of the engine...and the steepness of the ramp on teh lobese....the makers of the cams would eb the best to listen to for requirerments with their cams....

A set of retainers would give you an extra saftey margin and are cheaper than springs.
