Removing rotors
I was wondering if anyone had a big problem with changing the front rotors on a 1994 accord? I was hearing that they are really difficult but after looking it over and reading on it, it seems fairly easy with some patience. Can anyone confirm or deny this?
HAHA! I figured you'd be asking. If your design is anything like mine, it's not so easy. On mine, the hub is ON TOP of the rotor (instead of the rotor being on top of the hub like most Hondas). I haven't taken off my rotors yet so I'm not too sure what the process is. In studying my Helms, it looks like the big nut on the end of the axel is going to have to come of (and be replaced with a new one) and then entire hub must be removed to access the rotor. I hope your 5th gen isn't so retarded. I'm weary of doing this job myself... I might just get someone else to do it.
DONT BOTHER!!!!! TAKE IT TO A SHOP. ITS A ******* MAJOR PAIN IN THE *** THAT TOOK MY MECHANICS 4 HOURS AND COST ME 250 BECAUSE ONE OF MY BARINGS BROKE. BETTER PRAY U DONT NEED TO CHANGE THEM. MAJOR HASTLE, TRUST ME.
It is exactly the same. I am split between... I think that I will do it myself, I will let you know how it goes. I am going to give myself one whole day to do it.
Dave, I Changed my pads last night and they crumbled out of the calipers when I pulled them off, they got a little hot Saturday! If you decide to do yours yourself I might be able to help with a little first hand experience.

They are pressed on style rotors and it will probably take you about an hour to get them off if your just turning them there is a machine that will turn them on your car. But they are a hellashous pain to get off.
IM ADVISING YOU NOT TO EVEN TRY. YOU HAVE TO TAKE OFF ALL THE CONTROL ARMS AND STABLIZERS AND THE AXEL. THEN THEY WERE USING ******* AIR POWERED TOOLS TO TRY AND GET THE DAMN HUBS OFF AND TAKE THE ROTORS APART. TOOK THEM 4 HOURS WITH SHOP TOOLS, I DOUBT YOU HAVE SHOP TOOLS, SO A DAY WONT DO IT. TAKE IT TO A SHOP AND SPEND $200 FOR THE FRONT TWO AND PRAY YOUR BARINGS DONT BREAK.
P.S. MY MECHANICS HATE ME NOW.

I've seen it done professionally, and no suspension parts have to be disassembled or the axel removed. The common problem I've seen is the threads on the end of the axel get stripped and then the axel has to be replaced... major pain. It's just a bitch to get those hubs off. Oh and I'm quite sure that axel nut needs to be replaced 'cause you have to bang a notch in it to keep it from undoing itself.
Yeah Morgan let me now how it goes. I'll probably tackle it myself too. Hopefully my one-month old Hawk pads should still be in fine shape.

yeah man you got screwed m local honda mechanic would charge around $90 bucks to do it
yeah the hub nuts are supposed to be replaced, they say to take a brass hammer and tap the axle loose from the hub
blues are supposed to be hell on stock rotors, you running them all the time?
