will my welded differential hold up launching at 7500-8000rpm
me and my brother have a extra b16 tranny that we decided to experiment and we went ahead and welded the differential just to see how it will hold up.this is on a 244whp all motor. will the differential hold up.this will help me decide if my other b16 tranny will get a quaife or if the welded differential holds up good to just leave it.please help me out and let me know if you have any experiences with welded differentials and how did they hold up.thanks
It may work for a bit but on day a weld will crack fall off then you will find a hole or crack in your tranny case. Just save yourself time and money and only open the tranny once. !!A cheap fix will bite you on race day!!
I think the problem is when the welded diff breaks at the strip, it drives you right into the wall or into the guy you are racing. Good luck
this gets brought up every few weeks it seems.
ive personally never broken any welded diffs. my companions on the other hand, have broken plenty. 9 times out of 10 its been the stock carrier to let go and not any of the welds. when a carrier breaks, it reeks havock on other trans components.
for 240 something whp, i say go for it!

I dont understand that.
I could see that a with a high HP car but c'mon, it the diff breaks or you break an axle with a welded diff, I dont see it driving you into the wall. Stock one wheel drive hondas dont drive themselves into walls

welded diff is different, thats why i got rid of mine. if an axle breaks, it transfers 100% of power to that axle only. I snapped one at the line and it damn near put me in the wall, I can imagine snapping on on a gear change.
I broke 2 welded diffs with 250 whp and things weren't pretty, if you spin outta the hole then you'll be fine, but it will be that one beautiful day when you hook perfect and break everything in you gear box!!! In case you are interested though, i do have a ProDrive spool for $200!!
