Default b18a1 head on a b16 block...

Can it be done safely? Thats my main concern... I just aquired a b18a1 and after reading for some time about the Rod Stroke ratios I think it would be better to go ahead and use a b16 block .... any comments?

I've thought of putting the b16 crank in the b18 block.. also.

cuz he just said he wanted the rod stroke of the b16.. personaly i'd stick the b18 for now.. and keep the b16 and build it up.. then after you've figured out all the odds and ends of the swap do it.. but yeah i suppose u could just change out the cranks and rods.. reason i say both is because they are balanced with eachother.. unless ur getting it rebalenced.

Well, The main thing fo rme is to get a block in the car and get it running.. But I dont want to pull the block out again.

I dont mind pulling the head off or oil pan. Just swapping blocks is more of a pain.

I think its not a good idea, Head flow and valve train is not up to the rev capacity of the B16. I mean thats why LS/Vtec exists. You would creat a monstrosity that can't breath and if you rev it you will float the valves and if I am not mistaken the B18a1 is not a V-tech head so High RPM use will be crap anyway.

I dont rev all that high anyway... I normaly shift at 3500 rpm's. I just want something streetable until i get in a better position than i am now to do more improvements.

it turns out anyway that the b18 has a messed up crank so.. now im wondering about how to do things.

I've got a good b18a1 head. a b16 block and a b18 block.. now with no crank... what to do.

i've been wanting to build a "1.6L DOHC NON VTEC" B series for a while. with the better rods of the B series, add a B18 head ported with stage 3 cams, you basically have a DOHC ZC capable of more PSI for turbo, or higher revs.

im not saying i wouldn't rather have a DOHC VTEC, this situation came to me when thinking about people that purposly build LS VTEC, they have a B16 block and B18 head left over, might as well see what the combo could do

IMO i think you should just put the b16 head on the b18 bottom end, and build it, suits up for a nice LS/VTEC. I think in the long run you would be happier

Yea, just build the the b18a1 into a LS v-tec thats what im saving for now, if youd do anything with a b16 block it would be put the b18c5 inturnals and thats only if you got the b16b block, but yea put the b16 head on the b18a1 and build it to v-tec.

+ = awsome hybrid

Wouldn't that be a B16noTEC?

Actually you could do it, the same principles would apply to the LS head on a B16 block as they would putting the B16 head on an LS block. The end result wouldn't be very satisfying, you'd be better off with the stock B18A1. You are basically building a revable (if the valvetrain hold up that is) destroked B18A1, would be similar to a DOHC ZC.
