Drag racing on stock tires...... does tread wear matter?
Ok I am about to buy a set of rims for my 95 gsr and I was wondering about my tires. Ok I am deff gonna keep my stock 15" rims for dragging (until I can find some hubs
) My tires on the car are pretty worn and seem not to get as good traction. My question is would I get better grip by smoaking down my old tires til they are slicks or just getting new tires? (I will buy slick one day but I have no money for that now) So, is a new tire more grippy than a burned down tire to a home-made slick?
PS: I drag with my tires at 25 psi

drag radials aren't really that much more than new tires...if your gonna get new tires you might as well get the drag radials...and just cause your old tires look like slicks....doesn't mean they perform like them

id say get new tires. get some with low treadwear and soft sidewalls or just get some slicks. i wouldnt burn your tires down to homemade slicks cause it will not be long after that the cords begin to show (not good).

thank you for all of your replies! Yeah I did not think of the cords showing and then the tire would soon after pop! I guess I will look into buying a nice set of slicks when I get the money oh and on the 8/22/15 M/T slicks would that fit in my fender well? I dunno tire size in inches I am accustom to the metric sytem sorry.
so what would that be converted like 225/65/15???

hey disco monkey maby when I get slicks and if I give you some 195 width 500 tread wear tires and get a 1 sec head start I could beat you in the q/m?

another track question.....does lowering your tire pressure make a different on stock tires . i usually drop my Tire P. to 22 in the front, and set my AGX"s to 1 front 4 back. Is this right?
i dont think slicks are the same as just bald tires, the compound of the rubber is totally different, thats what allows them to heat up and get sticky, its not the same rubber
no one answered my question either. Anyone know if lower pressure on stock tires helps or not.
I think it does cause when your tires are flatter it has more of a contact patch and that means more grip
1. lowering pressure on stock tires will help with your launch
2. a new tire will grip more than an old tire (of the same make/model tire) the grip is usually determined by the compound the tire is made of
