Default Spoon Ecu (couple questions)

For 1, would it be worth getting for a 01 ITR?

My friends is selling his and I may pick it up. I have some questions though.
1) Can there be any possible damage done to the car if I pop in the ECU and take the car for a test run to see how it drives and just plug thw old one back in?

2) Does anybody use this ECU with their 01 ITR? How much better is it than OEM and what are the Pros/Cons of the ECU?

I have searched and supprisingly there was very little information about the unit.

Thanks in advance.

it won't do any harm to your motor.
so long as you don't over rev your motor or mis shift.

*besides maybe burning the cat out cuz it does run rich.

Anybody else running this ECU? I would think it would be pretty popular on a near Stock R (Intake/Exhaust)...

i think its waiste of money.. i've been using hondata with custom maps tuned ONLY for my car and not just general plug-n-play, i woudln't do it any other way.. for mild bolt ons i don't think its worth messing with ecu.. at same time, mild bolt ons are waste of money (this is my opinion).. i like big changes or none.

It won't be plug n play for '00-01. The use ecu harness is different for the jdm ecu. However, it will plug into 97-98 itr's. You'll need to get an adapter to run either Spoon or Mugen ecu's.

A friend of mine runs a Spoon Ecu on his 96 JDM R. He likes a lot.

A huge improvment over the stock ecu.

If it is just stock ITR, will there be any benefits from changing to Spoon ECU?

Any gains or loses for overall performance?

do you need to change the valve springs to use the ecu?

all these answers/opinions seem really vague i wouldnt get the ecu till you got some more info, especially considering the price for one of those ecu.

Well I can tell you this, as soon as I plug it in, which I think he has the adapter aswell... I will write up an extensive review of it. That kinda what I was looking for if anybody had one, but since not, I will prolly be the first to review it and provide extensive information...

If I can make it to my local dyno I will also post that as well. Thanks for the feedback though everybody.... keep the info coming if you know anything

not sure, when you guys are talking about mis-shift, and the bent valves and all, you are talking about going into the opposite gear you should right? (i.e. 3rd to 2nd instead of 3rd to 4th)??

Misshifting is when (example) you are in 3rd gear and go into 2nd instead of 4th: Overrev/misshift.

And with ecu's that dont have a rev limiter, you risk bending valves, etc, if you rev above 9000 or so (regularly) with the stock valvetrain.
