How to get involved in Autocross & Road Racing? Requirements & Preparation?
Hey, what's up everyone? I am really a noob at the track situation. I really want to run my car at the track(autocross) but I don't even know where to begin. I don't know what is really required to run it. Can someone please explain what all has to be done to start off. Are there limitations on engine set ups, do you need a roll cage, and just proper track edicate. And if you guys have time can you also list all of the little nessecites(spelling)
, like extra oil, coolant etc...
I am all ready for the flames but can some help me out here. I know this should be in the other forum but I want to ask everyone here.

okay, just so we're all clear. which do you mean?
Track:

or Autocross:

Neither really requires you to do anything to your car, as long as it is in good running condition and you have a helmet. You should find where your local SCCA club is if you want to autocross, which is a good start. Those folks can point you in the direction for doing track-days (HPDE's) as well.
-Ben, who just wanted an excuse to post some pics

heheh ...
But as Ben said, about the only requirement is that you have a helmet.
The Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) is one of the main groups that hold and "sanction" Autocross and Roadracing events, though there are may local groups and events as well (depending on where you're located ... i.e., region).

Haha, I think we need a ITR-only track/autocross picture post page in the Type-R forum. Who else agrees?
Wow- I just spent the last 30 minutes looking through old pics and reminising over my 2002 autocross season. I only got to autocross the aarRRR once this year, with road-racing the hatch all year in '03.
Okay, one more pic and I'm done - I promise
This pic was taken the DAY AFTER I bought #1214 and had driven it 9 hours back from Nebraska. I couldn't miss the first autocross of the season!

No flaming at all, it's great that you want to learn more and use the car as it was intended.
Best thing to do is take some time and Search some topics in this and the RRAX forums on how to get involved in autocross and HPDE's but, good spring boards are links to SCCA and NASA since they are the more recognized and popular clubs for such events:
http://www.nasaproracing.com/
Here's a link to NASA's explanation of HPDE's High Performance Driver Events: http://www.nasaproracing.com/hpde/index.html
http://www.scca.org
Here's a helpful link to car classification for SCCA Solo2 which is more commonly known as Autocross: http://www.moutons.org/sccasolo/Rules/index.html
Please take a look in the Road Racing Autocross forum and do a thorough Search of topics that you may be interested in before posting. Many of them are road racers and autocrossers and HPDEer's alike.
Once you get a feel for the speed it tends to be become more addicting than a crack-heroin cocktail with a tequila chaser.
Good luck, many of us do it, and many of us are here to help. Safety, education, sportsmanship and learning to leave your ego home are the big important things to remember when doing any types of motorsports, especially grassroot's style. Fun and feeding the addiction are just wonderful byproducts.

Hehe ... I agree, my car with Chad driving and Gina in the passenger seat doing some "testing" at Summit Point (since I didn't register ... was just there at the last min., and Chad broke his race car).

Go for it. Like everyone said all you need is a helmet and willingness to try something new. Your first autocross will and should make you really nervous, but as soon as you take your first run, you'll be grinning ear to ear. The learning curve is steep, so stick with it. Type R's are one of the best stock autocross cars along with Miatas, believe it or not. Chances are you'll never leave second gear, so there's not much shifting. If you really enjoy it, you'll want to toss some Azenis on your car. They are great for that sort of thing. Good luck, Matt.

Cough Cough what?
Ask Ed right above your post, he was with us at Watkin's Glen where the following pic was taken:
That's Kyle behind me holding his own very well.
Here's me trying (very poorly I might add) to stay in front of that brand new EVO8:
And here's a nice shot of all three colors in the esses at Limerock Park last month:
Me in front, Marc? behind me and Ed? behind him? Dunno but, at least I'm in front for the pic
Seriously though Opie, stay close to rodney and hit as many Autocrosses as you can this next season before you hit the track for HPDE. Trust me, you will thank yourself for it. And Chris is a great driver, you will learn loads from him and from autocross. Anything you need, we are both/ALL R-Speed members are here to help.

Some solo shots that I like:
One of my faves.
Talk about ON the apex.
Just to be clear though, all of the action shots I posted were NASA HPDE's High Performance Driver Education (events) and NOT Racing. Racing is another ball of wax altogether. Autocross is also considered as a timed competition (thus Racing.)

I have Hi Res shots of these above that are Not resized if anyone wants them for whatever reason. HT member Neomugen has my disc of them currently, just IM him if you are interested.

Pics of when I first started Autocrossing, the R was freshly dewinged and debadged:

I think that is Rodney there when he co-drove with me?

This was my very first Autocross.
Thank you always Dave and Chris.

Ouch? that doesn't look too good, almost looks like he parked it sideways on a speed bump...
hope that was your "track" lip...
