Default Welded Diff , more cons than pros?

I am debating on taking the cheap *** way to traction rather than buying an LSD.
I know normal driving on the streets will be hell, like going through turns the tires will chirp. But it'll be great while launching!
Has anyone here welded thier diff? Or know the concequences of doing so?
A local shop did thiers and got thier SOHC race car into the 10s, but I will be driving this on the street - not much though, I only have 21K on it now, and I've had it for four years..... Thanks
