I've had my 97 R for about 4 or 5 month and this is the 1st problem i ran into.
My engine light just came on today and the car makes sudden jumps after i engage.
I hope it is the clutch but just to make sure please tell me what u think it is. Yea i'm kinda new so try to keep the insults to yoself cuz i feel bad enough already.

Code? I not sure what ur asking for? Well this is what happen then. I was pullin on to this busy road in traffic so i pretty much floor it to keep from gettin hit and i shift into 2nd at like 7900rpms and thats when i heard some grind and then the check engine light came on shortly after. After that the car would make a sudden jump after engaging into a gear. And thats all i know for know but i hope thats enough so that u guys understand my problem.

BTW, you can get your car scanned free at some autoparts stores and that will provide you the you were wondering about. Go to ITRCA.com and it has a full description on every engine code. here's the link:http://itrca.com/FAQ/troubleshooting/celcodes.php
If your clutch is slipping, I don't think it will throw a CEL.
Good luck.

Ease up. I'm sure he doesn't mean anything by it. If he said old guys drive ITR's too nobody would make a big stink. We're all here for one reason...
Good luck & get that R healthy!

Yeah I think you're low on oil if anything. Can you hear the vtec engage at 6000? Check it 5 mins after you turn your car off and tell us where it's at.
but... low oil will throw the OIL light on, and a CEL coming on if any damage has happened in a result of low oil. but definately should have seen the oil light come on first if that was the case, right?
(btw my oil light has never come on, and never will)

i don't think its a oil problem because i just got a oil change. I went into vtec after the check light came on and thats not a problem either. i think it might be time to get a new clutch. i was told by a friend that the pressure plate might be goin bad
but it still would not throw a CEL if that were the case. the ONLY way is see what the CELC is and go from there. no need to replace parts you don't need to.
nice sig btw

yep, do that before anything else, let us know the code..

Once the "OIL" light comes on it's usually too late!
I've had the CEL come on when I dropped out of VTEC during a longish 100+ mph sweeper on the highway going back home to change my oil (I knew it was low).
Scared the crap out of me ... thought I blew/broke my motor.
Installed a Mugen pan shortly thereafter.
All that being said, and even though you just got an oil change ... check the level!!!

the check engine light flashed one short time but i don't know if i did it right. i think i did and according to the codes i got a Oxygen Sensor "A" (Primary) defective circuit or unplugged / defective sensor. Who is done this ECU code thingy? Does that sound right to you guys?
did you jump the connector using a paperclip or whatever while the car was off? if you jumped it correctly, when turning on the car. it'll start to flash a series of flashes. long flash = 10's, short flashes = 1's. it'll go through all the codes being thrown and then repeat all over again. just read the page i suggested more carefully.

the code should keep repeating itself as long as you keep the jumper in,
i think if its oxygen sensor problem, your car might go into limp mode... its possible the code might go away if you reset ecu, if not then it will confirm that you do have a problem.
