any ideas what symptoms?

my sister miss shifted her celica from 5-2 then rpm went over 8000
but there was no sign of any damage on transmission.

so i thought of bent valves?

 

Engine would run on 3 cylinders or less; it's not pretty.

 

How many miles does she have on the car?.... Reason I'm asking is because, I've had 3 friends that have done the same thing in there celica... The new model celica's are know for missing shifting (transmission literally blocks out 4th gear and cause you to go into 2nd) causing bent valves, and shattered pistions. I would take it back to the factory, unless you have a whole lot of aftermarket parts on it.

But to answer your question: the car would missfire and compression would be low in cylinder that has bent valves.

 

96 celica gt and about 140k miles.

there are no abnormalities right now. no smoke or anything.. but my sis is afraid to drive it so im driving and just want to check if there is any problem.

 

do a cylinder leakdown test... if your results yeild good numbers then she got lucky and possibly no damage occured.

Usually when misshifting like that the car has zero compression and you cant even get it to start up. If it does it's choppy as hell and dies constantly.
