Default i have a distributor problem

i have a b16 in a eg. well, i just got a brand new gsr distributor and i put it on. all i did was line up the shaft and plug it in. i started the car and it didnt work. so i took off the distributor and the shaft of the distributor broke off.

my question is that if u install it wrong, will it break? does the shaft part easy to break easily?? is there a correct way to install it? what is the difference if the shaft is put in the opposite way?? help please!! i need to know this

honda distributors have an off set drive slot, so if the distributor slid in no problem and was flush with the hole than it was installed correctly. what i wwould venture to say is that you probally bought this distributor used and it was kaked to begin with.
