is transmission going bad?
This post is for a friend- He drives a 94 legend with an auto tranny. He says during the shift from 1st to 2nd RPM's jump up to 3k then down to 500 then back up. He feels no acceleration during this, and it only happens between those gears. What do you think the problem could be? Could it be somin other then the tranny like throttle cable or maybe a lack of tranny fluid? Thanks in advbance.
I searched and found nothing.

i'm not reading it that clear.. can you clarify more detailed..
the drop.. 3k to 500.. does the car BOG? .. how long does it stay at 500? does it go back to normal 2nd gear RPM @ appropriate speed? if its like most honda's .. 2nd gear at 3k is 30mph.. u gotta check if it really is a problem.. because auto's tend to bounce the tach around. mine does it from 3rd to 4th..
well, if its tranny fluid, when last time changed.. auto needs to be changed every 15k mile. flushed every 45k. just check if its enuf. and check color of it. if its black, its old.

You dont need a tranny fluid change every 15k miles... if you dont beat on your car you change it once a year if that.. and oil every 3k miles.
if his car goes down and back up that much.. my guess it its either low on fluid or maybe a tps sensor or other sensor..
does your friend beat on his car like so many that say "drive like its meant to be driven"? or does he drive it easy?
take it to a place that does diagnostics and have them hook it up to a computer and give it a full diagnostic. then take that and start shopping for everything for a tuneup etc...
your rpm between gear changes shouldnt drop that much if he's on the gas.. my TL doesnt do that and no auto i've ever driven does that...
try a shop/dealer that does diagnostics and do that first...
(hopes he isnt the type that does neutral drops at stoplihgts trying to race)
oh one last thing.. does he have a check engine light on or tranny light flashing or lit up on the dash?

this day and age average mileage of a car is 12k+ a year.. therefore, 15k changing is optimal. (which is basically one year)
yea, if your friend is on the gas.. and it drops.. that shouldn't happen. but if he just lets off the gas.. it should drop and bounce back up. i drive cars that do that all the time. my friends vw golf.. damn that thing bounces around like its broke or something. but i think he's in dire need of transmission flush.
