Default VAFC install, screen doesn't light up

I was installing a VAFC on a 98 ITR today, and the VAFC screen didn't light up. When I turned the key on, the arrows and prev next it up, but the blue screen did not. I double checked my wiring, I followed the directions completely. This was not my first install. When I was connecting into the ECU harness, the VAFC was not plugged up.

The instructions say if it does not properly illuminate, to box it up and send it back. It is properly tapped into the ignition switch, and the ground wires are in the right order.

Is the VAFC bad like the instructions suggest, or did I screw up?

I went ahead and took the VAFC out, and fired the car up afterwards to make sure it was ok without it. Everything ran fine.

if the arrows are lighting up, and the screen is not... then the power/gnd has been connected properly and it's a faulty unit.
