i think my car is possessed
hey guys, i have a 98 civic ex coupe with I/H. It rained this morning and today after taking my finals i was headed to grab something to eat, cruising at like 50 mph, all of a sudden when i let go of the gas, it revved up to red line all by itself, i was like WTF? so when it almost hit red line, i immediatley shut off the car and put it in neutral, and i just rolled into the pep boys parking lot. when the car came to a complete stop i took out the key and then turned the car back on. it immediatley revved all the way to redline again. few minutes later turn the car on. went back to normal. told them what happened and they said it might be my intake? is this right or what is wrong?

there was a post a few days ago, same thing happened to another guys GF's car after he put a new intake on, and when he took it off, there was a cats toy ball stuck in the TB... you should check that... I would imagine something was in your intake

thatz what i was thinking, too.. 96-98 civic driver side floormats had recall ..
the floor mats grabs gas pedal and accelearate it ....remove your floormat and drive it see if still does same thing....
i doubt it if that was intake...

I had a neon a few years back that did the same thing right after I installed a bored-out throttle body. Turns out after giving a little gas, something was interfering with the spring loaded piece the throttle cable connects to on the TB and it was jammed at WOT. I think I had to reroute some wires or hoses or something and it never happened again.
dude, back in the day, b4 my license, i used to drive my car around my neighborhood
. i decided to unleash the massive 1.6 non-vtec
and the throttle stuck under my floormat.
scariest thing when u dont know why ur bouncing off the rev limiter. i pooped my pants.

I would pull the throttle cable off and grease it..And clean the spring and cable lever at the TB with some WD-40 or something like that..take off the intake and open the TB manually and look for build up around the TB plate inside..IF you see some gunk..The hold open the TB and use a rag soaked with some carb cleaner and wipe it down as best as you can..Just some suggestions..Hope it helps.
Also you cable could be frayed and hanging on the liner that it goes though.

Oh and next time it does rev up or whatever see if you can put your foot behind the gas pedal and pull it up..If that stope if from reving and puts it back to normal then for sure it is something to do with the cable or maybe even the spring and lever at the TB..Just clean everything up.
