Default ALmost Ruined The car for a easy mod.................

Ok last night me and my g/f finally found the rubber connnector to be able to put her intake on. So i go out and install the Intake on her 97 EX. Installed it in like 1 min. I start the car the rev it a lil then i let of the accelerator and the car just jumps to 4,000 rpm so i turn it off. I turn it back on does the same thing goes right to 4K RPM im like WTF so i tack it off to see if i put the stock back on. I take it off and i See that the throttle body looks pink and its somwhat opened, One of our cats fuzzy toy ball was inside the intake and had (MUST HAVE BEEN A MIRACLE) be closed onby the throttle so i didnt get sucked in. MAn was that a relief. Stupid cats....

HOW DO I RESET the check engine light? It came on when i started it withot the O2 plugged in. Or will it turn of itself?

Unplug the battery for like 10 seconds to reset ECU.

When I installed my CAI, my check engine light reset itself within a week or two.

you are one lucky ****...i hate cats..lol .. they are always where they shouldnt be..when i had my old car i caught a cat stretching and digging his claws into my hood and he left some nice marks.. i guess they like to sleep on hoods cause they are warm from the motor.. i went nuts.. the light should reset it self after a week or so or if not unplug the battery for like 10 secs like someone else said.. and yeah autozone shuts them off for free!

unplug the connectors to the ecu... this way you don't have to reset your clock, and re-program radio stations.

Did you at least check the code?

You don't need to disconnect the battery...you can disconnect the ecu fuse in the fuse box BY the battery....little quicker and safer..imo.

Just curious, what would have happened if that little thing would have been sucked into a cylinder?

Would it even be able to get past the intake valves??

I doubt it, It probably would have just gotten jammed up in the manifold and would have left you wondering what the hell was wrong for a long time?

I think the battery is quicker. I keep the negative wire on there so that If I put enough pressure on the nut I can loosen it up and slip it right off and be done in 5 seconds. I have to reset my ecu like everyday because of obd2 and I have no cat . Obd1 is coming soon though

I just leave the CEL on. I don't care that much. And btw..pulling the fuse is the correct way to do it. Try and get your car to connect to OBD software after unplugging the battery. I'll guarantee you it won't.

Doesn't your computer set itself into "limp" mode when a CEL is on? or does it make absolutely no difference if it has a chip?

if you disconnect the negative terminal, it's instant. if you remove the fuse, wait approx 5 minutes.
