Default should I get one?

Okay yesterday me and my friend were driving around(origanaly to test drive another crx.) So any way the crx that we test drove is a 88/89 dx. It no rust on the rear 1/4s but the front 1/4s are busted up, The drivers side corner glass is broken out, it has these Awful van seats thrown in it and the egnition is broken out(big red flag). Heres the problem with that one though...No title(another red flag) and it was origanaly $500 so when we went to test drive it the guy let us take the vin numbers to have them checked Swearing up and down that it wasn't stolen, but he also wants to get rid of it so bad that after we left and went bake to my friends house there was a message on the phone that he would sell it for 350 now?

What can I do about the title for the car? Also I would have to get a new egnition for it since obviously the other one is hanging down by the clutch pedal and you can only start it with a screw dirver

Okay that was one car that I was looking at. The other is a 90/91 hf that was at an import salvage yard here in town. Super clean interior, The only problem with the car is that it was hit in the back minor incedent. The only thing wrong is the driverside rear 1/4 is dented up pretty bad. So when we asked the guy how much he wanted he thought for a second and then just through out 650. I figured that I could probably talk him down on that one since it was just a random price.

So pretty much what I'm asking is which one should I get? The reason I want one is because I just put a new motor in ming but the front end is jacked up and I need one with a good front end(both of these cars have good front ends) and my rear 1/4s and doors are rusted out and the sunroof is held on by duct tape because it's so rusted.

Sorry for this being so long and the lack of grammer but I just woke up and I'm not thinking quite right. Also I don't have any pics and don't have the means of getting them. Just need opinions.

I would immediately call the local poilce dept explaining the situation, try to get them to run a make on the car to see if its been reported stolen. If it comes clean you can get replacement title but the procedures for doing so vary from state to state. Try contacting your local department of motor vehicle to find out procedures.

The HF has MPFI wiring and is light the older DX needs conversion wiring. Getting the quarter replaced isn't going to be cheap unless you got buddies with a body shop.

WEll I talked to the police to try to run the vin and they wouldn't do it. I'll take it by the tag office and check it out there and see what I can find out.
Anyway thanks for your help I'll figure out what happens and hopfully have me another CRX to mess around with.

Here's something I never thought of till now. GO to http://www.carfax.com run a check on the car, it gives you like 30 days to check whatever you want. If its stolen or otherwise that should work too. Surprised the cops wouldn't help you. Since all you wanted to know is if it had been reported stolen. Try the other way too, car is not old enough for carfax to not work.

Yeah I got a friend to run a carfax on it and it had moved 2 times in oklahoma and once in texas and then came to wichita, Ks(curent) and then the guy that got it in Ks gave it two his friend. Never reported stolen.

Also I told the guy that if he sold the motor then I would probably buy the motor from him. Saves me from having to pull the motor. So he says that he has sold the motor and tranny and will sell me the body and everything for $150. I thought not a bad deal but I was wondering if I can file for a lost title or something like that to get the title. I tried to track down the title and it just came up as a builders title or something like that and couldn't actually find the title.

I think the only person that can file for a replacement title is the person that it was last titled under. If the guy you are getting it from got it from his friend and his friend HAD titled it in his name then HE could get it for you or if the guy you are buying it from had it titled in his name HE should be able to get it for you.

Go to the department of motor vehicles in your state and find out what they say about your state. It will be different state to state. Anything anyone says is heresay until you hear what they tell you. There is a way most places. but its different from one state to the next.

cool I'll try that. 150 for a pretty good body is not a bad deal. I don't really wanna pass it up. Just replace the can interior with my si interior, looking good.

If you have a buddy with a shop by it tow it there. leave it with him and have him file a mechanics lein on it, he can usually get a title that way, will cost you a little but more but that may work if nothing else does. But like I said it all depends on your states laws as to what will and will not work, and you do want it to be legal.

DO that and they will thow you in jail for sure, Its a felony to alter those. VIN# are located in many more than one location on the car. Messing with them will get your car impounded and crushed and you becoming an unwilling sperm recepticle in the county jail.

I went and looked up the Kansas DMV and here is a little bit of info I found....

I just bought a vehicle and the seller did not give me the title and I can't find him, or the title that the seller gave me does not have a complete assignment (missing signatures, mileage, etc.) and I can't locate the seller to fix the problem. What do I do?
If the seller does not give the buyer a properly assigned title and cannot be located, the buyer must consult with an attorney and go to court to obtain a court order authorizing the Kansas Department of Revenue to title the vehicle in the name of the petitioner (quiet title action).

But see like I said earlier it all comes down to did the guy you bought it from title it in his name then lose it or did the guy he got it from lose it??

You have your answer, at $150 for a clean body, consult a lawyer to see what his fee for writing the required letter should be. From there decide if its worth it to you. Likely to be more than $150 thats for certain. But you will be legal, and not be looking over your shoulders.
