what kind of guages do i need for boosting?
i plan on boosting in the near future, but what are the really important things i need to watch for? i know there are all kinds of guages out there, boost, oil pressure, fuel pressure, water temp, egt, a/f....but what do i REALLY need? also, what are accurate guages? i was looking at some expensive ones like apexi and defi, which i really liked, but willing to play the price...anybody have any info on those?
thanks in advance

I think that's pretty much what everyone starts with.

not a cheap *** autometer A/F guage.
a a/f guage with a wide band o2 would be good.

i had a autometer a/f with my boosted ls and it was a waist of money. its nothing but a light show. i would get a oil pressure, egt, and boost guage. then i would have a wideband o2 kit that i would only use to street tune. but thats just me

it also depends on what kind of fuel system you are using. If you are using rrfpr, then a fuel pressure will take precedence over oil pressure.
1) boost ( unless you have a boost controller that shows boost in a graph or meter mode
2) egt
3) fuel pressure or oil pressure (depending on application)
4) wideband o2

thanks a lot for your help guys
but, are there certain companies that make better guages than others? who do you guys prefer?

Boost, EGT, and Oil Pressure
Defi = badass!
http://www.defi-shop.com
check out the "Link" series. I run them and they are very much worth the money. http://www.gruppe-s.com always has groupbuys on them and I got them for 655 shipped for boost, egt, oil + control box.

The Apexi El System Meters are awesome--they are dead accurate and look very nice too
We have them,as well as autometer on our site--check it out-----motorcitywd.com--this is our wholesale division

I have used both apexi and autometer, and I must say that apexi is of much higher quality than autometer. However, US market is not getting the latest technology that Japan market is using. I think they (Apexi, greddy, hks... ) are trying to keep it in the domestic market. So far, only Defi is bringing this to NA market.
Make sure the company you are buying from has US warranty... afaik, gruppe-s does not have US warranty.

I know what 98lude is saying. Apexi's USDM catalogis like 20-30 pages long. Their JDM(yo) catalog is like 100+ pages--they offer so many products that most people over here dont even know about--sorry to rant off-topic
I'm gonna be boosting within weeks, and so far i bought a autometer boost guage, and autometer pyrometer, do i need another guage for oil pressure? I will get one eventually, but do i need it now? Im gonna be tuning with Hondata s200B.
thanks for all the replys guys....i was looking at the sizes of the apexi and defi and the one's i want only come in 60mm....thas pretty big, i don't think they make guage pods for those...or do they? i don't wanna be all riced out or whatever, but putting them on a pod right in front of your face would be a easy way to monitor what's going on, but then again, everybody and their mom could see em
...where else would you guys suggest to put em (probably 3 60mm guages), custom into the dash above or below the stereo? if you guys have any...show me pics inside your car!

autometer's 2 1/16" pod can be enlarged slightly to accomodate 60mm meter, so no worry about that.
I have 5 gauges, and I put 2 on the pillar, and 3 under the stereo...

i went with the autometer cobalt EGT and water temp, halmeter a/f30 air/fuel gauge and the apexi A-VCR to monitor the boost, check my pics on page 3 of my webpage

Greddy also makes a universal 60mm gauge pod. But it'll also need some work to make it fit perfectly.
