whats up, I am the proud new owner of a 2000 PY ITR. I found this car and kinda bought it on an impulse. I typically don't buy cars that have been modified by someone else. But I figured what the hell. Well I do have some questions.
The car has a VAFC, and tonight when I went to lunch I noticed that the check engine light was on and the VAFC was off. And the rev limiter is coming on at 5600RPM's right when the VTEC comes on.
This is obviously not right. What do you guys think, do I just need to tune the VAFC, or is something else wrong.
It has a JDM front on it and I also noticed that the front turn signals do not work. I am a little stressed, because the last thing I wanted was to drop a bunch of cash and run into problems.
Your help and critisim is appreciated. Thanks in advance

I had similar set up on my previous 97CW R with the Field controller with harness.
Its a hit or miss set up with the Factory OBD2 in our ECU. It works fine for a while then one day check engine light comes on and OBD2 will go into fail safe mode by not letting u rev over into VTEC range. I had to reset ECU by removing my battery cable and then everything ok. I got sick of this situation so I removed the Vtec controller which did nothing for stock motor. Now I gave up messing around with my 00FBP R and just enjoy the ride.

i'd get rid of that vafc junk.. that should be an easy way to solve this problem and avoid other problems.

Are there other mods that prompted the previous owner to install a V-AFC?
At any rate, triple-check all the ECU/V-AFC wiring. The fact that your front turn signals don't work suggest that the previous owner either didn't give a ****, or was just trying to dump a problem child.
Good luck.

Thats exactly what I was thinking. I don't really see a need for the VAFC anyways. Unfortunatly the car is going to be a daily driver. I would like to keep it in the garage, but I can't. Plus its my wifes X-mas present. I am going to remove the unit tomorrow.
I did however notice that the fuse box cover was off. And the dealer had just detailed the car. I hope that it did not fry anything. So when the light is on, the car goes into safe mode? Thats rad. I also have a clifford alarm, does that have a wierd setup also. I have only dealt with other systems.
Thanks for the advice, and if you know anyone that wants a VAFC I have one.
I am stoked to be a part of the family!

hey im sorry to hear your already having problems, but i've heard of lots of people on ht having problems w/ v-afcs and it was generally user error/installation or faulty wiring, i wouldn't go ahead and sell it quite yet though, checking the wiring connections and maybe even checking voltages and resistance w/ a multimeter would not be a bad idea though, hope it works out so i can see her and get a ride soon, im still in shock man

Thanks homey, I have to move the controller to the glovebox anyways, they put it on the dash
So I am going to check out everything tomorrow.
The previous owner had a RX-7 that was in sport compact car a while back. So I think that he had everything done right, at least I hope. I hate wiring, oh well, I have a nice car.

why get rid of the vafc? it is hooked up correctly? crimp connector crap?
Solder the vafc in correctly and make sure it is set up properly.
They do work... you just have to know how to use them.

Make sure the settings on the VAFC are correct. Make sure the Engine is set to 4/. Also that the senor setting is 6 in 6 out. If these 2 things are not set correctly it will cause the CEL and the car will run exactly how you described. This happened to me.
congrats on your purchase. sounds like a nice one to buy at an impulse. besides the vafc, invest in security. check out the other thread about the stripped R...sad

The front blinkers don't work, the rears do. The blinkers do double flash. The spot were the blinkers are suppose to be are empty, probably an easy fix.
I am maybe keeping the VAFC, I am not sure, but if I did sell it I would ask
$200.00 shipped, looks like thats what they are going for here.
I took it to the dealer and cleared the code, thats exactly what the CEL was. Going to tackle that tomorrow.

The guy probably did a hack job on the install. There is nothing wrong with the VAFC most likely. Just redo it.
And as for the cornerlights, you just need new bulbs. I'm sure you figured that out already though.
