Okay, I am 6'3" and for the life of me I cannot heel-toe in the R - there just isn't enough room under the steering wheel to move my legs where they need to be.

All you tall guys out there - Do you heel-toe in your R, and if you do how?

 

I attempt to, I'm just not very good at it...I'm 6'3" too and I don't have a problem w/ leg room at all...my seat is all the way back, slightly reclined...

I just roll the ball of my foot onto the gas...I really need a set of mugen pedals...now what ever happened to that group buy MIKE!!!!

 

hmmm.. my seat is all the way back as well, but I am more upright. Maybe that is the problem...

 

it helps having the seat reclined a little, but it's not the greatest for posture....but I was never able to sit upright and drive comfortably, so that's what I do

my seat is only like 2 or 3 clicks from upright though, it's not drastic

U and I must be the only people on here that drive in that position

 

-steering wheel all the way up.
-seat base 2/3 clicks up from the all the way back position.
-recline position placed to accommodate my helmet and my arm placement.
-wide shoe bottoms.
-foot is in the normal position with the side of the shoe rolling over to push on the gas pedal.

i'm 6'2".... i can't do it either

actually i find some small consolation in reading this... everyone laughs at me because i can't heel and toe... sniff!

 

If it makes you guys feel any better, I'm only 5'11" and I can't heel-and-toe. The pedals are too far apart for me to just use the side of my right foot. And, I can't do the contortionist way to heel-and-toe either. Hopefully, I'll cure it with some Mugen pedals.

 

I'm 6'3" ... only way possible for me was:

Mugen Rails & Momo Race Seat
A 330mm wheel also helps

 

Someone in "competion" mentioned that they just "slightly" bent the gas pedal closer to the brake pedal and that helped a bunch.

This is how I do it:

Heel on the floor.
Right side (ball) of my foot on the brake.
Left side of foot bliping the gas, foot rotates on ankle and heel.

I have to be careful my foot doesn't slip off the brake, but it works pretty good for me.

 

I'm 6'3"ish, and don't have any problems....but i can't technically heel toe, that would put my knee in the steering column. Buy a pedal kit (most razo kits have tabs that bring the gas and brake anywhere from close to very close to each other), and put the ball of your foot (right behind the big toe) on the brake, and use the outter edge to blip the throttle. This is how most heel-toeing is done now anyway, check out http://www.piloti.com shoes, they have tread on the side of the right shoe for just this purpose. Practice hard for a month or two, and it'll be second nature on track days or autocrosses for that difficult 2-1 shift at speed.

That's exactly how I drive. I feel like I have the most control of the car/best feel in this position.

 

I can heel/toe ok, but am constantly hitting the steering column. If it wasn't for the darn GS rules, I'd have the supa low race buckets already!

 

I posted this problem about a year and a half back, and I still can't do it, I'm 6'2 170. For us tall guys to do it properly I think we'll need a seat that lowers our driving position.

 

6"2, heel toe at every stop light and stop sign
well, it takes time and practise, don't know how you can drive at circuit if you can't heel toe??? or autox...

I found myself a little more difficult in the winter because you have to wear thick clothes, but still do it at every stop sign adn every stop light, in the summer, heel toe just like anyone with 5"2.

I suggest changing your driving positon, i one click from full back, with the seat one click from full upright. D is even taller than I, and he sits with the seat all the way back and as straight up as it gets. If you're sitting a foot or closer to the airbag, you're asking for serious pain in an accident, by the way.

 

im 6'2" .. i have my seat all the way slide back and the angle is pretty leaned back... i would say my should blade is parallel with the b pillar. i do drive with the wheel all the way down, even though i think up would give me more knee room... but i cant control the car as well sitting so far back. and with this setup i am normally able to swing my heel out to the gas peddle

 

That's where I'm at.

The grip on the Mugen pedals is great, so a less-than-ideal foot placement on it still feels solid.

My size 12s get all of the brake pedal and I use the heel/edge of my foot to blip the throttle. I also find that the best shoes are as small as possible... I like my Converse All Stars - not too fashionable, but they have very small soles and don't add any width to my EEE feet.

 

My driving instructor who is the same height as me had trouble heel-toe-ing the R with the stock seat, as did I.

My solution was wider pedals (Mugen) and a lower aftermarket seat.

 

I bought the OMP Grip Carbon/Kevlar because I was able to try it before purchasing in the shop. I also tried the Sparco and Momo seats but didn't like them. I wanted the Mugen, but was wary because King told me it would be too small for my frame. I'm 6 ft 220 lbs and wide at the shoulders - so fit/comfort was very very important.


I LOVE my new seat. It cradles me very nicely and can drive for up to 6 hours comfortably without getting out of it. I would encourage anyone interested in an aftermarket seat to TRY BEFORE YOU BUY. It took a long time for me to try the aforementioned seats but I was glad I did.
