Snapped a few pictures of the rents cars, thought you guys might like it.
My mom drives the S2000, my dad the RX8, both 6 speed manuals. The S2000 is a 2002 the RX8 is a 2004. Kinda bad pictures but there was a request to take a picture of the RX8 engine

So far no problems with the 8 yet... I'm watching out for antifreeze though because thats when it starts (starts leaving antifreeze on the floor, motor has to be replaced) and yeah, Mazda is offering to buy the car back or will give you $500 in Mazda stuff because the horsepower rating was off. But I think we bought it after they fixed that. The 8 only has 750 miles on it, got it two weeks ago.
As far as all the blue on the S2000, yeah, I agree... But I can live with it if I had to!
, Wait... I do, the Explorers interior (my daily) is blue...

I think they're rating them lower, I don't see why they wouldn't after they sent out letters stating the mistake.

They're both very nice and tight feeling cars, they both corner on a dime. The RX8 has more power down low but up high the S2000 is all over it. As daily driverableness (Making up words here) its really close but I have to give it to the RX8 simply because the engine just feels so smooth and the car just feels well engineered, so well built.
The S2000 feels like more of the race car between the two, what got me though is the fact it didn't pull you back in your seat as much as I was expecting but it was gaining speed better than what I thought it would. It just feels weird to have the speed there but not the torque.
If I had to choose between the cars though I think I'd sport the S2000 simply because its an easier engine for me to work on, so many modification, well built, speedy little head turner that runs high 13s out of the box. But if I wasn't all into racing and modifying my cars I would without a doubt hit the RX8 because its such a nice car to just take out, pop in a CD and just cruise with. The power is there when you need it, nobody really has one around here and its just a smooth smooth car.
