your ecu will only throw a cel if your emissions are 1.5 times normal. it will not come on for other problems if it does not throw your emissions off..me personaly i hate cels..mine came on cuz my gas cap was a little loose...that pissed me off cuz the code read that it was a problem with the fuel tank...and yes i did eventually figure out that it was the gas cap after i dropped the tank to search for a leak arrrghh.

Yes you can because I just had the same problem. My car was sputtering/violent hesitation without a CEL. I unplugged my primary o2 and it solved the problem. The car ran and idled perfect once again. You will get a CEL if you unplug it, but you will be able to tell if it's your problem.

So unplug it...see if it runs better. If it does, go buy a new o2 sensor and reset ECU. If it doesn't, keep troubleshooting. Just a quick, simple test.

The primary is the one on the engine harness that plugs into the collector. The secondary is the one in the cat.

Mine was the same....it happened sometimes...sometimes it didn't. yeah..just unplug it for a day or something and see if it happens. It won't hurt anything.

edit: you don't need to take it completely out..just unplug the plug.
